my goal is to use a used CEM from scrap yard
I have tonight removed my CEM control box for Volvo V70 2003 (same on V70/S80/S60 1999-2004)
I have soldered away 28F400 and read. (see dump)
Are all the important information in the 28F400 or do I read the software from the MCU? (mc68376bgmft20)


Have read somewhere on this forum that Vin + immo is in 28F400, or?

IMMO and VIN are stored in flash. And to clone you need only contents of 28F400. No need to touch MCU.

I've looked through the 26st used CEM 99-04 that I have in my workshop and crossed the chassis number of the Volvo Vida and everyone gets the same number 30657629
Latest software for CEM 99-04 is 9438273


The question is whether software 9438273 is stored in the MCU chip or 29F-chip?
It would be very interesting if someone has a damos for CEM 99-04.

In the NEW OEM CEM direct from Volvo H/W number:30657629 there is a MT 28F400B5 and i could read the virgin file :)
BUT in some of the used CEM there is a INTEL TB28F400 B5B....
This both chip have NOT the same reading on my Wellon VP-498, and IF I try to read intel and MT with different configuration I DON`T get the same file!....
So.... I don`t now how to virgin my used CEM.... :(

The Black/Gray CEM... big diffrent is INTEL and MT...
they don?t have the same reading, or?
I can just swap the chips, if an INTEL chip can I mount an MT chip?
can it make my virgin file from MT chip to an INTEL chip?

I read this chip with Willem and use only one option for all of these chips and never had any problem. Doesn't matter if its TB or not.

Also not sure if your virgin will suit for modules with different HW since there are may different ones. If you care to share virgin dump then it would be interesting to check out.

Just to be clear TB28F400 is FLASH not EEPROM. Unfortunately don't know if they can be reverse used.

i find in flash of a used one there is vin stored and in virgin flash the place is empty.

I have now testad to put a "vigin" file in to a used Volvo CEM and mount in a car to let Volvo program as "new"
It`s no problem for Volvo VIDA to program the CEM and to make a update on software.
The car starts and run fine.

Of topic
(but my used CEM was broken to :) the SRS/Airbag was flashing in DIM and we can`t delete it... and the seatbelt warning did`t sound on driver side.)

just other question there are BDM points @ the back of the CEM, has someone already tested to read/write CEM? would be MUCH easier and FASTER to programm the CEM.235963

Interesting thread you have Soxten. I have also played alot with CEM-units.

I hope I?ve found this topic earlier since I?ve had a virgin flash for a year now. The black connector "CEM" is actually a Rear Electric Module unit called REM.

If someone has corrupted data on their CEM you could use Codecard.lt small soft to try repair the flash content. Usually you need new keys also. It does fail sometimes since the data is too corrupted. Then it?s best to make the CEM virgin with a new flash memory and use the dealers VIDA-online to adapt it to your car.

It would be great if we could make a database of CEM-softwares that have different features like cruise, aux heater, etc. Making our own (affordable) cruise installation sw-update would surely be a great product.

Never thought to BDM a CEM before, but sounds very interesting...

I found the programmer, which reads flashCEM without soldering. Unfortunately, I already have a programmer, and for one function will not be buying another. With such a possibility could be to read all of the CEM and build a database.

I have a HUGE problem with the Volvo S80, 1999. 2.4L gasoline
CEM => INTEL 28F400
ECM => 5P08
The CEM recorded errors "Wrong transponder" and "No information from the ECM" Starter does not turn.
1. I read flash and eeprom CEM ECM (original files below):

260707
2. fixed the flash and EEPROM using a small program from codecard.lt
3. coded two new transponders (machine Advanced EVO)(repaired files below):

260709
4. programmed the 28F400 and 5P08C3

The time now is such that:
Starter turns:joyous: but the car does not start:blue:
No errors in CEM and ECU
The CEM values ​​immo (VIDA):
"The data received from the ECU = NO"
"VIN number correct = NO"

Probably even though they fixed the flash (program from Codecard.lt) is the flash is damaged more seriously.
Does anybody strong in the subject can check me this flash?

Or go to the service to re-programming Volvo CEM?
But how to do it on a virgin? Delete the 28F400 to FF?

Metal cover? Simply: use your fingers or screwdriver.
For metal case: Cut the wall in two corners and bend, You will have better access to flash eeprom.

Safe to use original firmaware of hardware and copy only software part from virgin image if different hardware number. Model year 99-04 have one part number but many times was changed so it could be the same image for any model.

Hey guys, seems that you have a lot of knowledge of CEM and its content. I recently added a complete RTI system into my V70 2004 and it is working very well exept that it is not recognized by the car and therefore will not give me any data from the car. (missing the carconfig) What I want to do is to add it into the carconfig in the CEM but unfortunately I dont have any clue where it should be added in the CEM flash. Maybe any of you guys know or can give me a hint of how this should be done. It would be very appreciated! :chuncky:

You must read flash to extract pin code. Then you can add anything you want via vdash (volvocesky.cz) into your configuration, but it's no cheap solution.

Volvo synchro program works incorrect. Have to synchonize dumps manually. Have you something to read MEG48. If yes i can help you to start car.

I´m trying to read a volvo cem and i need to see if with the parallel interface connections i can read/write... but i dont know what software to use...

If the 28F400 chip only contains the necessary data, what is stopping someone from desoldering the 28F400 chip from the damaged CEM unit, and soldering it into the replacement? Assuming both modules carry the same chip, is cloning necessary or can the chip simply be installed in another unit? Thanks

Hi all, I have problem with cem Volvo S80. In hot condition CEM lost communication and car not start. Just wait cold and start restart. I changed 28F400 MITRONICS for replace with INTEL. Now car have problem when I start car and stop it after 3 minutes CEM lost communication. Need to do ignition on and off for wake CEM. But 3 minutes after using car. I think 28f400 intel is not same at microtronics.

I already changed it first time but same problem on hot condition (57 degres). Since I changed 28f400 no problem on hot condition but problem for starting car. I think 28f400 intel has not same. Power latch 3 minutes. If anyone have information of datasheet between intel AB28F400B5B80 and intel PA28F400BXT120. Thanks

The CEM number must match. If you use another number - then it won't work.

So, i was able to read the CEM data (Thanks to Holtek for info on programmer and all the Support) and program / add 2 new transponder keys with CarProg.
I had a problem with CEM making a constant sound like a relay working, but it seems to be related to the "Write" process. I programed again CEM and its all ok.
But after connection to the car, i have no communication in OBD2 with none of the Car Modules... (ECU/TCM/CEM, ABS, etc...)

Does anyone know what could be the issue?

We tried to turn on the car, and it gives signal, but car has no spark. Fuel pump seems to be working because in Injectors Rail, we have gasoline "coming out" (if we open "valve")
Also, there is nothing in the Dash showing and all the door, windows, sunroof controls dot work...
Only thing that works is AC and Stereo...

Does anyone have any idea what could this be?
Can this be CEM related?
I was able to get a used CEM but they are different part numbers... Can i just program New CEM with the bin y prepared with the transponders and check it out?

Have you tried the Volvo config file that comes with the software?
I only had read the Intel flash, so i cant give you much help...
Try to speak with user Holtek.
He helped me and imI pretty sure he can help you on this...

Any idea why the car wont start. It is a volvo v70 2002 d5, all keys lost. Add the key using org carprog, no start. Vida shows immo status - start not permitted, the car dont see transponder at all. Synchro with ecu - sometimes positive, sometimes negative. Took cem to pro key maker, he did two other new transponders and same, wont start. Vida shows that ID from cem received, but still doesnt see transponder, start not permitted. i tryied to do "restore cem data" using synchronization utility, still same errors. Vida as well shows wrong transponder error. transponder is original ID48 megamos non locked, tryied 3 new transponders. Other thing, when reading cem pulled out of the car, cem info is different from what i wrote in to it. Damaged CEM module? tryied to swap antenna ring, still doesnt work, checked all signals according to Vida, all good.

Not correct information! All black blocks are not CEMs, but REMs (Rear Electronic Module)!!!!

I asked the question if it could be done.
The car is far away, you have to go there for over 90KM.
I have to go read ECU AND CEM.
Hence my question is whether it can be done 100% sure
Is the ABS ID also needed?
