Pull a door lock and decode it. My instacode says codes between 1-4000.
All 10 cuts are in the lock, easy to remove.

It's a UK model, my insta code also says 1-4000, I believe thats for series one of the lock, where all 10no = 2 as a general. Think this is for series 2. Either way all sorted thanks, for the help either way.

there was no second series used on ford legitimatly for your year , so dont get confused with this , instacode has all of the info you just need to know how to search for it .

There is a code series 4001 to 9001 and 04001 to 09001 for the HU101 lock , but this is for the HU101 used on volvo vehicles that use this lock , so had your car been a volvo then code 5844 would relate to cuts from bow to tip of " 4312423435 " , if this is what you have then ford have started to use this lock too.

there are a number of code series used for the HU101 keyway below ;

1 to 4000 used on most ford and land rover range rover certainly uk
4001 to 9001 used on volvo
series 1001 - 11500 and 80001 to 81500 used on escape and usa models , escape and fiesta

also a new 7 cut series used on the ford kuger and escape with just 7 cuts and slightly different spacing which is series 11501 t0 13000

This 7 space version will still pick and decode with lishi tool , in this lock positions 1 , 2 and 10 are missing , so only positions 3 to 9 are used in the lock .

the spacing is a fraction different , so the reader picks and reads a fraction off the numbered lines 3 to 9 , but picks and decodes a treat with the latest version 2in1 .

My money is on the code being for the wheel nut security bolt. It's about the only code you can get for the new Fords unless you get the car from the original dealer.

I cant remember what the cuts were unless i check history, but im sure it was a card on the leather wallet which said key code, also I did another focus today which according to insta code was 3765, car was 2008, so guessing by 2009/2010 it would be on 4### or 5### would only make sense.

They dont increase the series each year , the code series 1 to 4000 is it for HU101 currently , 4000 possible keys for the focus , they dont extend the series after so many years , the series is the series until they make a major change to the lock .

i did a 2009 focus yesterday on 1023 and have done a 2003 cmax on 3654 , it has nothing to do with years

If it was in the leather wallet it was the wheel bolt code.
