Connect the external hard drive first reboot the receiver let it re-start then press Blue Button twice then you will see the extras menu with Devices Manager option for you to mount the external hard drive

Mate your a DK vet please re-quaint yourself with the forum rules: http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/f5/forum-rules-2/#post2 especially this one: Do not post links to other forums with similar content

you could also have just said never mind i have just seen the guide on Vu community support without giving a direct link.

And maybe your last question could also be found here its been answered numerous times without having to resort to external forums: http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/f186/vu-players-media-playback-file-types-314758/

Thanks

How to setup your Vu+ box for recording on an usb stick or on another device connected to an usb port using blackhole image.

Mount your usb stick by Devices Manager as /media/usb
Blue Panel > Black Hole Settings > Devices Manager > Mountpoints ...

By a software FTP or by telnet
create a folder named movie on your usb stick: /media/usb/movie

Enable Expert mode in Customize menu:
Menu > Setup > System > Customize > Setup Mode: Expert

Change the default paths for recondings:
open theRecordings Pathspanel
Menu > Setup > Sytem > Recording Path

Select the item Default movie location and press the OK button
then press the Menu button and select the item Switch to filelist
now you will be able to navigate through the directories and to select the path
/media/usb/movie by pressing the green button

After you pressed the green button and returned to the Recordings Paths panel
select the item Timer record location by pressing the OK button
and select the path /media/usb/movie by pressing the arrow down button
then press the OK button to save and to return to Recordings Paths panel

Select the item Instant record location by pressing the OK button
and select the path /media/usb/movie by pressing the arrow down button
then press the OK button to save and to return to Recordings Paths panel

Heres my solution

I found a solution and worked perfectly with 2 separate vu+ solo with 2tb Seagate external hard drives on each.

First I downloaded EasyUS partition master to my laptop and formatted the 2tb drives from NTFS to FAT32

I then took a backup of my black hole setup to usb then I flashed the vu with a vix 3.0 image. Once installed I turned off the VU and plugged the external hard drive to usb. Turned on the Vu went to setup and initialised the drive. That's the drive now initialised ready for your black hole install.

I then take my black hole backup and reflash my box back to black hole then plug the external drive restart the box and mount the drive and its done. DONT try to initialise the drive once on the black hole image theres no need and will screw things up again.

I hope this helps some people not a great fix but it does work perfectly and saves loads of messing around
