I've had my Skybox F5 for a while but with some further research I have heard about new better boxes available on the market.
I'm fairly new to the satellite scene and basically I want a box that has the following:

Twin tuner so I can 'at least' record one program while watching another.
To show 7 day EPG
To be able to Auto update bouquets

And lastly the main thing being able to install a ccam.

Anything else supported by the box is a bonus.

I've heard about the Technomate TM-5402 and Amiko Alien 2 but wondering what people with experience could recommend me.If someone could recommend be a good box under around ?150 that would be great.

All help will be much appreciated. Thank You :)

Not a big fan of the Amiko range as they are Spark first and Enigma2 second the 5402 is a closed source box but will give you 7 day epg and record but is a single tuner, have a look at the new Venton range of Enigma2 receivers or even the TM-2T OE or TM-Twin.

And lastly please refrain form asking about anything to do with 'Cams' its a No go area : http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/f5/forum-rules-2/#post2

Thanks for your reply and Sorry for asking about them. I've had a look at them receivers but they'r a bit above my budget. Just wondering what would be the best box for ?150 or under. I don't mind it being a single tuner as long as it offers everything else asked. Thanks

The Newly available TM-Nano is a single tuner Linux Enigma2 receiver and is priced from most places at ?130 which will do all of the things you want and also consider the Maxdigital XP1000 same again does everything you need and is around ?139.

The difference is the Nano has the same Broadcom Processor as the Vu Duo dual core 400mhz and can have an internal hard drive fitted with an optional cradle which is available for ?15 which brings price to ?145 and the XP1000 has a Broadcom single 500mhz processor but has a few more images available for it at the present time from the OE Alliance.

Your 3rd option is to take a chance on a DM800se clone from a PRC supplier for around ?120 delivered which has an abundance of support for images but no warranty as such.

Thanks again for your reply, it is much appreciated. The best one for my budget is the TM-Nano.
Seen one seller on eBay for ?130 and same with the Technomate website. - Which would be a better bet ordering from?

My main worry is how I would go about setting it up, So used to the skybox's being very easy to use.
Just wondered how I would go about installing firmware on these boxes etc for my 'needs' so I could a clear overview before actually purchasing. Want to feel at ease about how I would set it up before jumping straight into it.

Cheers

The TM-Nano images are available from here: Download center (http://download.for-better.biz/bbs/list.php?board=tmnanooe) there is only the 4D one at the moment which is OpenPLI 3.0 based and is very good, you flash the Image via a USB stick everything else is either downloaded via the OpenPLI servers for plugins and the 'youknowwhat' will have to be entered via FTP method from your PC/Laptop

I am sure more images will follow from the OE Alliance such as OpenVix, OpenAAF etc...

Hmmm... just seen world-of-satellite offering the MaxDigital XP1000 for ?139 also them installing the image.
I guess this would be a better bet for me, since I am not so confident so may just go with this box instead.
Do you know which image is recommended to get installed on this box from the ones which they offer? OpenPLI, OpenAAF, VIX Team.

Also again will this offer the 'things' which I need. Thanks

if you intend on buying a E2 linux box you need to learn how to flash a image yourself but give w.o.s. credit as they are offering a free wi-fi adapter and are installing the image free of charge for you unlike others. id go with vix image as they have good aftersales service and have connection with the vix team, regards mdt

Thanks for the help.I know I need to learn but i'm new to enigma 2 and thought this would be the best bet. The price they are giving the box for and installing the image is also the best price i've seen. Will go for the Vix image when I order :)

You two Guys will certainly enjoy the step up from the F3/F5 i can assure you and once you get to grips with how everything works you will wonder why you did not buy one in the first place, Just an idea but have a read of the Enigma2 section on the board while your waiting for your new toys as it will give you a heads up for when they arrive. If you do get stuck ask away

Good Luck

Thanks digicon for your help and also anyone else involved :). Just when I was about to order the maxdigital xp1000, The venton box HD1+ twin satellite caught my eye. I can never keep my mind set to one thing lol. I thought might aswell pay the extra ?50 or so which cost me ?184. This has a twin tuner and also offers the same things and more would I say.

Just want your thoughts on this decision of this box, sorry I have kept changing my mind.

Thanks
