Fiesta 2002 Mileage display dashes

Got fiesta 2002 with mileage displaying ----------
& speedo not working

Non ABS model
Tried new VSS and dash (although immobelised but just to test) still same problem

Any ideas

check ecu memory, faulty ecu, had 1 with same problem
