skybox is very sensitive to surges. anyone thinking of buying one should use a surge protector. i feel sorry for these ebay seller. 1 faulty f5 and thats like 10 boxes profit.

that is why i dont sell on ebay, fees and then get screwed from newcomers to sat scene who upload any dodgy firmware which ends up bricking the box or use them behind 3/4 cheap ?1 extension leads. personally if i was new to the scene, i would buy box all set up from some LOCAL seller. that way they can help sort any problems/give advice.

im new to the scene, it was on surge protector (unless faulty) and the only info i've added is the gift + channel list, cant see how this one would be my fault, hope not anyway, seller agreed to exchange to will wait + see

think i'll save up for the duo next, seems to be the one to have

Try & get him to replace it with an f3 a bit more stable than f5, keep you going while you aim toward your next box

I had same problem when I first got one of the f5's.. You will notice the box gets warm if left plugged in so it isn,t a power problem, just reflash the box using the null modem cable and the available software; which can be found on here, and it will work again.
Since then I have always used aj's channel list to update the box and not bothered doing a single sat scan.

The F4 has both HDMI and Scart but I think they've ceased producing them. Also has sim card slot for 3g connection. I use one and the only problem I have with it is the led display is quite dim. Other than that its a good quality picture.

another way to look at things see how many people have problems with these boxes and are posting.

As i said previously the Ratio for posts in the Open/Skybox section seems to be about 80% of all new posts of which 60% are people having problems

You must know that the majority of folk only come here when things go wrong. No bloody time for DK if all the Sports and Movies are ticking over smoothly. Its like the Dbox days when the Rom 7 & 11 changed record members on line to get their fix.

I had a boot logo (Free TV The Way it Should Be).

You cant compare an encryption change to a problem with a certain brand of box, the amount of posts where people are having problems that do have a different type of receiver in the same household and report that is fine tells me that when someone pays ?50 for one then expect trouble or pay a little more and have trouble free service. Those are the Odds

Just make a note of the next four or five members with less than five posts that come with a problem and get advice that fixes it. I'll guarantee you wont see half of them again till they have another problem. You only need to count the numbers asking where to find it just before theres Boxing on PPV. Next time you see them is just before the next event.

Very valid point i think & pretty much true.......

Most new members post ...Box dead....Missing channels....My box glitches....lost channels
A quick fix & Then Astalavista....till the next problem arises.

But i guess that's why where here to help
I was in the same boat when i joined but stuck around because its a help forum & we learn new things everyday lol :roflmao:

With this being most problerbly the cheapest hd box available then there will be a lot of folk buying them, they are not interested in the sharing side of things so this box will do them. I myself had to upgrade from an s9 in order to share... I did build a Linux pc server and learned everything I could on that before splashing out 150 on a box. Everything I did learn I learnt by reading through numerous forums like this one.. I read till my eyes bled lol.
If the folk who are stuck actually took the time to read through the threads they will see that 99.5% of what gets asked daily has already been asked time and time again. All the answers out there,
I am not having a pop at anyone who does ask for help, as I don't mind helping folk out whenever I can.

thanks

im sure he can retrieve your gift. also once you upload gift, does that not void any warranty????
