Hi
I have been having a problem with this car astra 2001 1.4 for about 3 months
I have been to 3 garages had 3 computor tests but no one knows
Taking their advice
I have so far replaced spark plugs and coil pack
one mechanic said airflow meter
another said this car dose not have an airflow meter ?
Test results All say missfire 3rd and 4th cylinder the car will stall or run rough at times (usualy on hills)
it will start no problem in mornings with no excessive
exhaust smoke
I phoned vauxhall dealer to book in only to be told it will
cost around ?350 for diagnostics only

any help will be much appreciated:banghead:

if its a 1.4 16v it has a mass air flow or maf sensor , they can give funny readings , lf had a zafria 16v that wouldnt go over 20 mph because of the maff sensor and my snap-on scanner still didnt show a code for it ..

it is a 1.4 16v m8
is this going to be an expensive fix?
is this a case of easy pats order and replacement
something i could fit myself

many thanks smirnoff_rules

u can get a maf (mass air flow)sensor from gsf motor spares .. they have a site and there all over the place , parts about 40 quid from them and u can fit it yourself .. but lm only guessing m8

if u can get a bottle of nova power clean and put into petrol
tank when 1/4 full it will clean out crap in fuel tank to build up of deposits on valves as opels suffer from excessive build
up of carbon even on egr valves

I'm not sure these have a maf sensor, think they use a map sensor, different things but both could give a fault.
With all 3 garages saying cyl 3 and 4 missfire I'd be looking for air leak or head gasket.

your right m8 .. the old gray cells forget more than they take in these days lol .

map sensor was in my head but its not going to be that ..

sticky valve ? old vauxhall problem and some of the new petrol 16v peugoet too ..

valve / combustion cleaner might be a good clean at first

could be simple check for air leaks also using easy start spray as i remember from my vauxhall days most of the vac pipes are near cyl's 3 & 4 also we used to have problems with inlet manifold gaskets causing this fault .another thing would be injectors if you are able then swap 3,4 with 1,2 see if the faut moves. if you need any more help let me know :top:
