I had to work on an old Golf recently and what I saw horrified me!

Apparently the car had not been used in 3 months and when I arrived all the windows were foggy.
I thought somebody was inside the car.

When I opened it, the smell was horrible, a very damp/musty smell and the inside was warm, even though outside was cold.

I thought it was mould growing on the car but then I realised after looking at it for a while that it was only growing on the surfaces that get touched...
I'm no scientist but is this stuff bacteria and it was....breathing?

Either way, I closed the door and left it for the next guy.
Like **** i'm getting into that car!

It's a little more serious than that. You have cloth seats, carpet, and other things that the mold can grow in or on. Mold spores can get in the air, and breathing them can cause serious lung problems. Living near the Mississippi we have flood cars to deal with every several years. The car you've pictured is as bad or even worse than some I've seen that had been completely submerged. I would, at minimum, wear a mold rated 3M mask, and cover the front seats with plastic.. also disposable rubber gloves like EMT's wear. Nasty, nasty stuff!!

Looks like the car may have taken a swim and gotten soaked on the inside.. The then closed it up and let it mold. See it all the time here stateside at auto auctions. I skip them myself when i see that they are this bad. Not worth being sick over!
