Hello
I was given an American Motorola V3 Razr but i can't get a signal,it won't make or receive calls or send or receive texts either.I have tried different Sim cards and done a master reset but it has made no difference.
Any idea's guys?
Thank you

I have not held one of these for a few years but I'm sure that there was a band selection option in settings.
Go to Settings then Network and try to find where you select 900/1800MHz as it's probably set for 850/1900MHz for the USA.
I am assuming that it is a normal V3 Razr as there were quite a few spin off versions like the V3i and V3x which may not necessarily be Quad Band like the original V3 handset.

Hello
Yes its a normal V3 razr.I've changed the setting to 900/1800MHz and scanned for new and available networks but it can't find any networks and there is still no signal?

I'm guessing that it's faulty if you can't see a network list on a manual scan... :(

No there isn't a network list on a manual or automatic scan but all the phone functions work with the sim card in including the network logo on the main screen which is 02.The phone still won't make or receive calls and texts and there is no signal.

Have you check that it has things like a valid IMEI? *#06# will confirm this one...
The fact that you have a network logo only confirms that the SIM is being read OK.

I didn't realise that O2 were operating in the US.
I'm willing to bet that the IMEI starts 35 & not 01. It will be a blocked UK handset & not a US model.
The only other possibility is a buggered antenna, which can be replaced.

An IMEI starting with 01 should still be OK. Many iPrunes and CrapBerry handsets hit Europe with US IMEI's. Even if the IMEI was blacklisted, you should still see some networks in the networks list after a manual scan.
The antenna (aerial) is quite robust BUT the 'spring' type connector on the board can open up. In an area where the signals available are not strong, this could give a 'no network' fault. From my workshop, I can see at least two network towers and can still get 2 - 3 bars with no antenna connected at all!
I'm also wondering if this isn't a US only version for CDMA and not a GSM handset...
