My box has broke, a spider 9000hd, so need a repalcement, have been offered a vu + duo twin tuner etc but cant see many for resale so not a clue as to price.

Are there any known drawbacks with a version that is nearly 2 years old? Or in other words have the later models of the vu+ duo, i know about the solo2 and duo2, got anything extra that an older one will lack? I read about remote control changing but not sure if that is any cause for worry. Does bits wear out after a period of time? how do i check its an original? it has vix on it and autobouquets.

The quickest check is to remove the lid and look at the color of the wires going to the switch at the rear clones is red and black and the genuine ones is white or black it would need to be cheap if its 2 year old

The original v 1.0 genuine Duo had a fault where it could not come out of deep standby for recordings, this was fixed in a later revision i believe 1.1 or 1.2, all other revisions up to and including the current v2.4 are minor, ie where Vu changed a part when the model they were using was no longer in production.

so in a nut shell there is no real downside to using a older Duo unless it has had a lot of use, if this is the case it may need the infamous capacitor costing less than ?1.00 changing but thats about it.

I my self own a original v 1.3 Duo which came with the white remote and thats about 2 years old, plus a Duo LE thats about a year old. both work fine.

thank you but what is cheap, the box brand new is ?299 etc, no hdd or usb tuner, anyway I made an offer less than 200!! Anyway if I dont get it I can while away the time reading about it, never seen so many posts in my life. And not a lot of them going second hand either.

by the way what type of screws are used to seal box? are they those security type or just plain philips?

?170 is a good price to pay for such a box in my opinion ( it's still one of the best boxes on the market and holds it's value really well ), as for the screws it's designed to be taken apart so that you can fit a HDD so it uses plain Phillips head screws.

benny I cant access that link, rubber duck, the box was bought nov/dec 2011 what version would that be? I offered more than 170 but factored in the 320gb hd and the usb dtt tuner. Mind you I have not heard back yet. Whats a uno? I will do a search.
And box is reported to be in pristine condition, ie was used as a second box.

and thanks agaiin for great replies.

How good is the HD pic quality on a duo?

The revision number is usually printed on the motherboard, for such a old receiver i'd expect it to come with the white remote too.

The uno is a newer receiver from Vu+ with a plug and play tuner so you can add a twin dvb-s/s2 tuner to tunr it into a twintuner box like the Duo but with a little more oomph.

thanks all, really appreciated, my offer was no good but i want a brand new one, now, if i say get the uno now to get my hand in, will a solo2 or a duo2 be exactly the same,eg loading images, plugins, etc etc.

the dimensions for the duo2 = 380 mm x 290 mm x 60 mm

that is a very useful chart

The image setup and layout is the same among the whole Vu+ Range for each team that support them.
