If the subscription price for pay tv contents are realistic in the first place, do you think anyone with a sound mind will want to take the risk.

All thanks to the providers as well as our highly paid ministers sitting on their ivory chair.

This somehow give opportunity to a group of people especially the chinese to earn big bucks off the little red dot on the map with all sort of device ranging from iptv media box & etc.

My suggestion, I think it is most secure and appropriate, subscribe to at least ST**H*b basic package asap. Most reliable for 'life after N3' it is going 2b for ppl with min package N3 card. The rest of the methods r too dangerous and only applicable to Chinese Nationals who if get caught, can juz jump bail and return to China.

Hahaha...Agrred but .... yes, if we Sg ppl jump bail, he is still jailed in a small island ( drive from Changi to Tuas in 40min tia), the Chinese go hm hv a BIG Country to roam about ma.... Fly east to west China in 8Hrs..... Big jail house....

Yes, there is an upcoming roadshow coinciding with Comex 2013. Those without an existing sub, please do yourself a favour and choose a basic package. Without the card, no one can help you, except for the Chinese Nationals who will jump at every opportunity to make some money or even rip you off.

To those that already has the card, start learning online. Certain things are not to be discussed in here.

For those who dont log, juz info that BPL was originally streamed in N3 only, but Big Brother SH had sympathy on we the poor ppl, he added relectantly N! for a few months, ( I think 6weeks only) for us to get a taste of soccer.

After which, a new site MAY b posted, and N3 cards in DB will b introduced. If Bros still stint and hope for a stand-alone box, they can keep their DreamBox and Dream anxiously, 6mth to 3 yrs there r no solution, I oso dont expect the chinese 2b super Guru, they know how to clone, they dont know how to develop, if methods posted here in DK, they will milk us again and again.

I hv PMs about how the chinese cracked N3 and asked me to test these boxes, so far I hv good contacts for making PCBs with box manufacturers, they told me no such box avlb. So pls dont trust the Chinese dealers, all these boxes r going to die......... :eviltongue:

Yes, even with N3 cards, it is not going 2b easy as juz flash a new image. Many other supporting methods, pls read UK Sat in DK for what they use for about 2 yrs liao. And this method in UK is oso coming to an end soon.

Recently my friend just installed *Hub fibre..
During installation, the contractor told him that the fibre box nw comes with TV output. So it's not recommended to put it in his room, if you have *Hub TV subcription in the future.. And told him that in the future, TV content will be going thru fibre..
My friend will check on what type of TV output does the fibre box have. (e.g. coaxial output) Will update on this again.
Does running on fibre affect the box?

Some friends of mine is considering on getting DBox, but they are worried how long can it last, due to this big hoohaa created by ST.
I recommended them to wait awhile for the situation to cooldown and see how it goes.
Any veterans' advise? :D

Just tell your friends to subscribe to SH or ST. easy.

In all honesty if such would happen in particular to N3, there would be almost impossible for any break through. Perhaps we should enjoy what we could for now and react accordingly when it does happen. As for buying or not buying, if the individual could afford it then why not even it's just days/months/years of enjoyment :) Chill... it's just Monday

My take on this is not "safe".

Dream is only a DVB-C tuner whereas Hu*s****on is DVB-C tuner with in-built DOCSIS modem, you will never know what kind of diagnostic infromation can be send back to St**h** if you have dream connected to your household coaxial cable point.

Guys we shouldn't be discussing safe or not safe, buy or not buy etc.
Members from the Sats Section will laugh at us jokers. We should be looking at the bigger picture, not petty issues. Since the day you buy the box, you already know its not legal. So far I have not heard of real cases where user is caught and fine.

Other countries are on N3 for couple of years and they have a workaround solutions and they are still surviving.

Subscribe to basic plan does not make you any safer. Just be discreet about it. For your info, there isn't much SH can do now except to upgrade their system. Their current system can't trace you because its a one way incoming, our box does not send a signal back to them. Hope it clarifies.

Relax SG brudders just watch the box till it dies off... relax

Bro you mean they upgrade their system then they can catch? Or just change the encryption key? But the signal is still one way. Even if they have a system and a box that travels both ways, they still can't catch right? Because a BB is a decoder, nothing is sent out. Unless they change the way they are transmitting the signal out, but they don't own the signal right? I mean, it's free to air, they just change the encryption key, but unable to control which signal they want to send to.

Our BB is only equipped with a TV tuner card and of course necessary hardware to do decryption, so it just receive signal from the cable point. Unlike those H***t***on where it's a DVB-C tuner with built-in DOCSIS modem therefore able to do 2-way.

Bro, don't ask question about catching or not.

If you are so so so so soooooo afraid. Throw the setbox into ur store room.

Don't think people should be focus about this.

Should concentrate on N3, do your homework and preparation.

Two years ago, where my friend bought a box not from Dreambox, where the old days still uses a card to decode the encryption on a box. My friend got a free copy of Straits Times with a StarHub application forms stapled on. He was so afraid that he dispose the box and never wanna buy any decoder box from then on, till now...but with a twist. He subscribe a basic tier and bought a DreamBox DM500 and has been happy to-date.

Beside BPL, which could view online. There won't be much withdrawal effects for non-subscibers and subscribers, life after N1.

Since days of card-based STB, 3-4 years ago, suffered many card expiry, i had already looked out for alternative. I subscribed to a yearly China-based VPN service, which had many server farms in Asia, USA, Europe.

To me, IPTV is the only feasible.solution.

Beside able to access many MDA-blocked "seafood" channels, i could access HD quality free next-day broadcast of major dramas via HULU.COM, and UK documentaries n shows via iview. Recently Korean, Taiwanese and Hongkong hottest drama available via azdrama.

Above could cover most of the contents *hub carries.

FYI, VPN make life easier online. BT, ED2K, XUNLEI all ultra fast.

No more overly subscribed ip range while using FILE HOSTING SERVICE, click and u had a new IP from another region, continue downloading..

Yearly subscription about S$40-80, depending on providers.

Dont be narrow minded, look out of the box.

My two cents worth..

PS: You would need a VPN router for ur IPTV hardware.

The following scenario is going to happen:

Planned migration of HD channels to N3, which means current HD channels including BPL cannot be viewed anymore. Basically DM800 and DM800SE is no different from DM500 when the time comes. This will happen very soon, since N3 signal are currently pumped together with N1, just need to turn it off, and all HD channels will be off limits. Migration of SD channels from N1 to N3 will come at a later stage.

Life after N3:

1. For those who have the N3 cards, learn what you can do with the cards, you'll be doing yourself a big favour by reading what those sat people are doing.

2. Similarly, I believe the China people will run a pay only c/s. You will need to connect to their server, how reliable it is I won't know, but since your box will be exposed to the internet, you never know who's monitoring the traffic. Good luck.

3. I also believe some altruistic people among us will try running public c/s. Good luck how long it will last before it will be taken down. With the number of connections, freezing pictures will be common occurenece, if any is brave enough to try.

Bro ultrakiasu has already pointed us in some direction. Only need to read some things off the card. Before every one start bidding for omnikey, phoenix readers on eBay, make sure you know what you are doing. Some programs will render the card useless. Thereafter, it's just a matter of inputting the necesary info into the cam.

Why not using our existing boxes, we should be enjoying it while it last and watch for the new N3 to be annouce, afterall it won't be so fast to change over since SH give an advance advise to home owners with letter to change/upgrade their box and that would take probably another 6 months or 1 year to fully upgraded before they do implement or change over their existing N1/N2 to N3 only mode. SH style would make home owners drooling when some of the channels are to be moved over to N3 boxes specific if they upgrade earlier as to force home users to set in motion to rent or to change their set-up boxes early. This way their projected dates can be shorten just like OpenNET if you guys recall for their fibre optic options for subscription by all three Telcos. There are many examples like Apple knows how to make people change their phones to the latest etc. hee hee
