Hi,
I am trying to help a friend fix his phaeton that had water in the kessy module. I attached the dump of the 93c86. Can someone please calculate or tell me how to calculate the PIN / SKC from this file.
Thanks.

Are you sure? I thought they always started with 0. Thanks for the quick reply though.

rivalryan,
Thanks for the try, but are you just reading two bytes from the file and converting to Decimal as I don't think that method works on these?

Hi,
Thanks for the help. I will try it but is it possible for me to Brick the kessy by using an incorrect file? It is not my car and I would not like it to be in a worse state than before I started.
Do you know if I can just unsolder the 39c86 from my old KESSY and solder it on to the new one. Will the new KESSY now work in the same car if I do this?
Also, you say my file needed work. What does that mean?

Hi,
this happen %50 with some persons which not use the correct info, for example, must use good programmer + must see the logo on the eeprom & must choose the same logo from the programmer &&&.... the operation of work on the kessy must carefully solder desolder & from allways.

I tried to program new Kessy with data from old 93c86. I get fault codes like no keys, incorrect coding etc. and PIN code is not correct. I now have to wait 4 hours for retry timer to expire.

The ECU is locked, max wait time is 255 minutes, if we start at the beginning, the original kessy was water damaged so their is a good chance that the 93c86 is currupt due to this, this would also explain the reading you are getting now. The KESSY has cs and so you cannot just adapt another kessy with just a pin code anyway

Rivalryan and others,
Thanks for your help. Here is a bit of an update on the situation with this car.
The original Kessy was not badly water damaged. The fault code is no communication with steering lock (which prevents car starting). Otherwise it is working OK. I took it apart and attempted to repair it and after spending quite some time tracing the steering lock circuit and verifying most of it is working, I thought it better to just replace the KESSY rather than spend more time on it. The good news is that the replacement Kessy did at least engage the steering lock so it proves it is the old kessy has this fault.
I dont believe the 93c86 is corrupt. This would also not explain why the replacement kessy (which is new and has never been fitted to a car) also has an apparently corrupt 93c86.
Yes, I unfortunately now have a 255 minute wait time.
Also, what is this CS that you speak of?

the reason I ask is that the vin number is different, the kessy is not new it is from a vw toureg 2007?? so was it not fitted before then?

ebay. It is a VW reconditioned one (same as what is currently in the car), but looking at the eeprom contents it has a VIN in it. I think they are ordered to a VIN from VW though so that could explain it. It does look as though it is new though.
