Hi every1, hope sum1 can help me?

I have had the box super usb for about 4 months and the other day my missus turned it off at the back.

Well when i got in i went to turn it back on and nothing happened no power no nothing.

She turned it off because i had just brought an external caddy with which i put an ide hard-drive in so i could record etc.

Well she came in one day and the hard-drive was screaming and smelt a bit burny so she turned it all off, box first tho "she says" as i know it can harm the starview if a usb is pulled out before turning the box off.

Then when i came to turn the box back on nothing happened no power nothing.

I have had the plug in bits and changed the fuse several times with no joy also took case off box and all seemed to be connected, i just dont understand how she can turn it off one minute then it doesn't work the next weird?

I am from the Nottingham area?

Havn't had chance to take it to an electrical repair shop yet hope you can help!

regards Andy.:afraid:

switches at back can be a problem if u keep on switching on/off.if u pull out usb while powered on u can brick it but u usually see a 4 didgit number on display.

Yea, ok but there isn't no four digit on display there is no power going to system at all.

I dont usually switch it off at the back any more suggestions please?:stupid:

You said the drive that was attached to it was "burning", that doesn't sound too good. If it was powered from the SV4 USB then you may have damaged that or the PSU.

Bring it to your local electrical shop as you have said and let them take a look at it.

hi, is an external caddy with an ide hard-drive ok to use as the drive or am i putting my box at risk?

what size as there is a size limit to use?

Its only an 80gb its the old connection ide i think the long jumper lead n the 4 pin plug would that make a difference.

i have seen 160gb ones specially for the SV4 on ebay but they cost nearly ?60 which i couldn't afford at the time so i went that option as i already had the 80gb

what do you think?

Excellent i'm well pleased i got my box back on line 2day

Even though it did cost me ?nearly 40 to get it repaired

it was the PSU

i thought you could get psu for about ?10-15 or not??

Bit steep as you said but I assume that included labour, albeit still a bit rich. Did they replace the entire PSU or was it a capacitor or diode problem?

the sv4 doesn't have high definition does it?

if not, why not lol!

the external hdd that was plugged into my sv4 was powered separately through the mains which would have surged it, right.

PSU is separate at least it was last time I looked will look again to verify tomorrow.

Your box is fixed there is little you can go after the guy for unfortunately. Best to be there when they re fixing it, although I know this is quite hard to do at times.

And no the SV4 is not a HD box and the surge, (if there was one did not necessarily come from your HDD).

just a quick 1,

have any of the previous starview boxes been high definition as my friend reckons his is, i'm sure his model is either 1 or 2 which i find very hard to believe?

There are no HD Starview STBs, maybe your friend has a different model like a Eurovox EX7000 which is HD. If its an SV1 he is lucky he still has SD :)

Nice to join the forum. My starview 4 installed yesterday has just gone dead after switcing it off, just like it happened to you. Is there any specific repairers that deal with it?
Please help!
