Hi All,

I was wondering if there is any way to access Skybox F3/F5 remotely to provide support or help to update channel list or setting (.dbs) files for missing channels etc ???
If not remotely, is it then possible to access Skybox F5 from a pc connected to same network (LAN)?? like you can access Dreambox for example.. Will appreciate any help

Thanking you in advance

Thank you so much P&D for putting me in right direction. No luck with remote access yet but FTP is already a step further in right direction. I found out that you can not FTP you skybox F3/F5 with usual FTP clients like filezilla etc. Skybox has its own LAN tool called SKYBOX F4_F3_M3_LAN_TOOL but it works with F5 as well. (I have uploaded the file in Tools)
You need to
download and extract it.
Double click to Run the application
Connect using your skybox IP (you can find using remote control in Menu/Network Settings/Ethernet -Setup),
password is your remote control password (0000 if not changed). Do not press Enter key.. click on Login
put your local files in folder where you have extracted the tool.
Now you can transfer files by clicking arrows...:joyous:
Enjoy !!!!

if you need help from someone outside your ip then you would need to use team viewer or similar to connect to your pc then use your pc to connect to the skybox, bare in mind tho, to update channel list not possible just over lan as you don't have an option to delete the old channels before you install a new one

If you do the channel list using LAN Tool it just overwrites the old one.

would it not cause the same problems that can occur if updating via usb without deleting the channel list 1st?

I have never had any problems updating the channel list by USB or LAN. However a couple of friends have bricked boxes by removing the USB before the box starts rebooting.

After a new channels list has uploaded and exited right back out of the menus the box will auto reboot (F Series). If the exact same list is uploaded the box wil not reboot its self.

Never tried the LAN tool before reading this...updating the channel list does just over-write the old list...much handier than doing it by USB...no problems whatsoever,

Yes I have has some problems with S9, I think they may be a bit tight on memory. I'm sure the file downloads before the old file is erased so if someone has had a channel list on and then scanned a couple of times duplicating many channels the download hangs part way through. Deleting all channels will clear most of the memory.

I decided to have a dabble and I can confirm that it worked for me on my network using a F5S box and a Skybox usb wi-fi dongle. I tried two different channel lists and they both worked fine. It's a lot more convenient than using a usb stick but it was also a lot slower too. It took a couple of minutes for both of the files to transfer to the box but I assume the reason for that is due to the speed of the dongle. When the next box firmware is released I'll give that a go as well using this method.

When you connect to your f3 box via the lan tool you put the ip in eg;123.456.789.012,but you would not enter the zero thus you enter 123.456.789.12
My question is what do you enter if your ip has 3 zeros? eg 123.456.000.012? thanks anyone

The correct ip in your example would be 123.456.0.12. You do not delete ALL the zeros - you only delete the EXTRA zeros.

Just to add an update to this thread. I've found that it's also possible to update your firmware using the LAN tool provided that you rename the firmware to image.abs. For some reason the tool won't recognise any firmware under a different name even though it has the same file extension. At least it works, though.
