Hello,
I have a partially damaged ECU on a VW with 1.4TSI, MED17. Do you think that if I desolder the MCU and solder it back on a identical working ECU, will it work, or does the ECU also store some security in other chips?
I'd sort it out with AVDI, but no one in my area has one.
Thanks
BR,
Andrei

Yes, it will work, if tricore stay not damaged on old ECU

It's not damaged, just a few lines are broken on the ECU. Will try it and post the result.
Thanks!

what were you doing that you broke the ecu? While opening maybe?

I didn't break it... just that the ECU didn't "see" G83. Tried with another ECU, and all is ok, but of course immo stops the engine right away. I've opened up the original ECU and repaired the broken tracks, but there is also a broken track on an inner layer of the board. That's why I want the change the ECU so I don't have a failure while driving the car

In that case there is a high probability that tricore input pin was also damaged.
And MCU swap will swap defect also.

I've managed to repair the old ecu without swapping the MCU, by soldering a few wires to repair broken tracks.
Thank you for your answers

easy way is swap tricore to simular board (bga reballing) or take second hand ecu and go to dealer vw,skoda etc
(in poland on Skoda dealer 50euro inc VAT)
