Hi, after getting the Defective control module error on VCDS, i went out and bought a brand new Airbag ECU. i did save an auto scan from the previous ECU. See Below,

Address 15: Airbags Labels: 1T0-909-605.lbl
Part No SW: 1T0 909 605 D HW: 1T0 909 605 D
Component: 04 AIRBAG VW8 021 0100
Revision: 02021000 Serial number: 003B9D0423VX
Coding: 0012340
Shop #: WSC 01324 785 00200
VCID: 3669577C415C62E

1 Fault Found:
00003 - Control Module

After installing the new ecu i go to the coding option and all credentials are '0000' which is normal.

i have a software coding, work shop code and also importer number?

i tried putting the coding number in software coding which is '0012340' and for the work shop code i was told 12345 would do the trick but after pressing do it. it bounces back with an error 'Coding Rejected, Error 31: Request Out Of Range!

with the software coding i had a look on the VCDS Site and they only put 5 digits in the software coding tab, is it because i put the two 0's before the 5 main digits? or am i supposed to put all 7 digits in?

VCDS Software & Cable is completely genuine.

Hi,

Well your thinking and intuitive way seem to be the logic one, but i dont know if the VCDS is the right tool to config your new airbag ecu.
basically, the dealer would do the config with an ODIS system which you can also get a clone to do the job.
does the original ecu error code happen all of a sudden ? is it due to accident (airbag deploy)?
can you post a photo of the original ecu label and the new ones ?
i dont know your technical skills but if all numbers are the same (on the label) then id try to read both ecu's eeproms and just copy the required fields (coding. shop...etc) to the new eeprom...
