ANGRY shoppers blasted Marks & Spencer?s penny bazaar yesterday after they queued for hours ? and most of the stock ran out.

Over 3,000 bargain hunters waited to get into one store for the 125th anniversary sale.

Hundreds were handed tickets and told they could snap up cufflinks, jewellery sets, ties, pants and purses for just ONE PENNY, the 1884 price.

But when they finally got into the store in London?s Marble Arch just sweets and drinks were left.

Customer Greg Dillon, 23, from Ealing, West London, said:

?Earlier they assured us there would be stuff left.

?It?s not fair and it?s ridiculous. I?ve been here for two hours.?

Beverly Rumsey, 36, from Chigwell, Essex, said: ?The organisation has been shocking.?

Last night M&S apologised but a spokeswoman said: ?All the products were subject to availability.?

Earlier veteran model Twiggy and M&S boss Sir Stuart Rose opened the sale. Around the country 130,000 shoppers queued from 5am at the 150 stores.

In Birmingham, Shirley Willis, 72, said: ?I got a lovely necklace and some sweets, not bad for a penny.?

Oliver Price, 72, joked in Cardiff: ?This isn?t any queue you know, this is an M&S queue.?

The sale runs until Friday.
