solo 1 update just leads to black screen

i did a solo update via the box and it just stays on a black screen, took me ages to revert back to a older style. does this mean that my box is a clone?

More than likely especially if you cannot update the image via the online updates

it may also depend on what image was on box as new image from a certain point need a full image install with no backups used,and i hope you made a note of that important thing that gets erased with new flash.
