If your going for a Dbox, get a Nokia one instead of a Sagem, that was my biggest mistake.

Dboxes are ageing a bit now, I would move onto dreambox or something like that.

Failing that definitely get the nokia, mine has been perfect up to now, it has given me a few years of flawless channels :)

a dbox is as good as the image you put on it, an image can work geat on one box and not so good on another box thats the same, so try a few different images.
but in general a nokia seems to be the best, as sagem seem to have weak tuners.
just bare in mind that one day soon it might all go away.....

My last nokia arrived broken, had to send to get replaced. I have a broken sagem and a mate had a nokia break too. Also had a clone dreambox arrive broken. (do not go near sagems!)

That is 3 dboxes out of about 20 that have passed through my hands, one replaced and 2 dead ones on my hands, one was tested and just needs a new power supply.

I am thinking of the itgate now. It has component out which is good for me.

Are there any on the horizon, or already out, with HDMI? Which would have the best picture quality, I have a guy looking and price is not really an issue, are the itgate picture quality as good as an official DM600C?

I would be using component, don't think the 600C outputs that, so really would be comparing, the 600C's best, to the itgate component.

I have only seen 2 sagems that do not chirp, about 4-5 that do, just not worth the risk. Nokia is only about ?5-10 more. I do prefer the sagem remote, but thats all.

All the sagems run find on gbox, but that limits your image choice, also the keyroll fix is not automatic for gbox yet, though Xenafan implemented a good fix on his latest images.

Nokia boxes are pretty good compared with the Sagem boxes... but they will all `go down` with the current keyrolls

DM8000 is the latest box.

Promo video on YouTube 8lZbBQlBfDA

Dream Media Say

Features:
The DM 8000 support multiple HDTV standards, including MPEG4/H.264 - that to be implemented by Sky in the UK! An improved power supply unit is included which will finally solve all previous PSU-related problems for good . A USB 2 port is also included as well as the standard RS232 serial port and Fast Ethernet port (no Gigabit ) It looks like the front of the box will house a multi-function (10) card reader so that you can easily load/access data, photos, mp3 etc. The LCD display has increased in size to 3,5x 5.5 cm. Naturally Linux is still the operating system, however it will be packaged in an 'easier to use form'.

We can only guess that means a complete re-write of Enigma. These details are still very sketchy. More news as we find it out

Specifications:

Tuner: Twin tuner (optional card)
O/S: Linux (open source)
Video connections: DVI, HDMI
Supported video standards: MPEG2, MPEG4/H.264 & WM9 (HDTV compliant)
CPU: 723MHz IBM

What do you intend to do with it appart from obviously watching TV.
If nothing then get someting like a Starview the Box3, they are alot cheaper & al;ot easier to setup.
If you like playing around with you box (OOH ERR misses) i.e networking, streaming etc then I would suggest a Dreambox as its essentually a new purpose built version of a dbox2 (dbox2's are rather old now)
