View Full Version : Skybox F5 & F5s - Rebooting every 2/3 minutes

Hi,

Been using two skyboxes, F5 and F5s for over 7 months - Since yesterday, both keep restarting/rebooting themselves. Have had no issues for the past 7 months.

If it was one of the boxes then maybe there could've been a power supply issue but both rebooting themselves??

I;ve updated them both with latest firmware...same problem. Can anyone shed some light on this?

Thanks

Try reflashing your firmware.. Are you sure your using the correct firmware for each of the boxes?
Try unplugging all the cables except your HDMI and power cable and see if rebooting still occurs.

As I said, no issues for the past 7 months, didn't touch a thing and they were both work a treat! I don't understand why both of them have same issue on the same day? They're not on a constant reboot, they work for 2/3 minutes and then reboot!

Thanks for getting angry at someone trying to help you.
I'm starting from the bottom and ruling things out..
Did you try the second option? It sounds like you have faulty lnb lead.. are they connected to different leads?

Sorry about that, didn't mean to be like this!

No, they are both connected to different LNBs - both on different dishes!
The only thing common is the ceeeeline provider and same ethernet switch.

Same house? Could be a power tripping issue
Don't really have any more ideas as very weird for both boxes to have the same problem.

That sounds like where the problem lies and unfortunately thats all the help you can have on that subject.

yep same house...nothings changed in the house recently...so can't think of any reason there would be power tripping!

But is it possible that boxes reboot because of the that? I've searched online and can't find any solution what so ever!

Can thethingthatcantbetalked about really cause your box to restart on its own?
if your bored you can always try reverting back to a more reliable firmware such as one before the youtube app came out

Yes, can 'Lord Voldemort' really cause the box to restart on it's own? Need an expert view on this! Arrgghhh so frustrated can't find a solution for this!!!

Not normally. Rebooting has been caused by numerous things, certain HD channels, strands of outer cable touching inner and power supplies.

Of course the cheap crappy boxes appears to be another cause.

I guess this is the end for both my boxes then? they do a pretty fine job for 'cheap crappy boxes' - What's your opinion on Cloud iBox II ?

Well it's a linux based box so it's a good start

As DW says most prob the box's

But i would try unplugging all the leads apart from the power lead....see if it still reboots it's self
if this is the case then you can be 99% its the power source or the box...

Try a different power pack or downgrade the firmware....you have nothing to lose

You were spot on earlier mate! It was the seeeline...had two in there, one was saying 'online' the second was saying 'login' - removed the second one and now it seems to be stable for the past 10 minutes or so!

I tried an Openbox s6000 but wasn't over impressed as it didn't have a fan

Get one with a fan and they should run better.

You will need a good bit more educating if you have only played with Skyboxes though.

I don't really get some people! I've been in this game for a good while now! And other members on here who I consider good dk friends have been in t even longer, and then you get people in it 5 mins and they think they no everything about every ****ing box!, if you want a good cheap easy to set up box with one of the best pictures out there and all you want it for is watching Tv then these boxes are the best on the market, if its going to be a hobby and you want it for movie streaming and recording one channel while watching another, and you want to spend hours reading up or even weeks I would say then spend some real money and buy a VU Duo +, the skyboxes have great support and the epg has to be the best for its money and so much easier to set up then any other box! And I don't have any model of the skyboxes but I've installed many for my customers and touch wood I've set them up myself and none of my customers have had a problem, yes I've had faulty boxes but that's what happens when so many are made but if I see they are faulty I send it back and I they send me a new one, I have never bought a clone so I can't comment on them but for the money and for someone just wanting to watch SLY for cheap it's the best starting point. Hundreds of thousands have been sold within the last year so they must be worth the money or people wouldn't buy them. End of

The Skybox/Openbox Range have become very popular for one reason and one reason alone: Cheap access simple as that.

They are Plug & Play and i would say 90% of Buyers are traders looking for the easiest solution to replace the Long dead Cable Box or people getting fed up with a certain Kryptview

The pictures great easy to set up most people who buy them buy them cause they want a cheap and easy way to watch sly which with Linux boxes its not cheap and easy. Traders buy them because there's a market for this like you said. But what I'm saying is there good boxes for what they do if you have used one you would agree the picture quality is far better than most boxes which are four times the price. The supports class as so many have been sold and the epg now is the best for the money. It's easy to update you can't really go wrong unlike other boxes so for the money IMHO it's the best box out there for the money!

I agree. My F4 picture quality is far better than the Blade or some of the E2 I have set up.

If money wasn't a problem for folk and providers stopped pushing up their prices to pay the likes of the Beckhams and Roony's of this world these boxes would be dead and subscriptions would had by all.

I await the hecklers.

Its pretty basic knowledge that the STi and Sigma based video chipsets as used in most closed source receivers give a slightly better pronounced picture and colour rendition than any of the E2 Linux based Broadcom receivers Most likely due to the drivers.

Not 100% on this but i would have thought closed source such as the Blade,TM5402,Skybox,Openbox,Strong,Spiderbox,Clark e Tech would all use something like an STi or Sigma based chipset so should all be pretty much close to one another regarding picture quality

I have had a spiderbox for many years and yes the picture is really good. I did pay quite a lot more money than you can pick up a skybox for but I did get a very good at the time something you can't talk about here but I wouldn't of been able to watch any paid channels on a sly beam. But with the skyboxes the picture is by far the best I've seen compared to any other closed source and I mean its noticeable and it provides the masses with a cheap affordable viewing which is what most people want. Most people are to busy in life to start a hobby in satellite as there's lots to learn for beginners and lots to keep up to date with these boxes are perfect for these guys. For these guys these boxes are best value and I don't think no one can argue with that.
