I have no experience with this car, 2003 smart car, the remote control works ok, but has picture of key on dash and no start or crank.

I did key learn with avdi but still the same, there was a long list of faults in the SAM unit, cleared them and now no faults.

Is there a common problem with these cars?

thanks for any info, ninja

I think up to 2003 there was a ZEE unit and after there were SAM units... Location is on driver side under dash, it's a box with fuses, identical with the bsi fitted on Citroen/Peugeot (and having many functions, including immo). Just peek under dash remove that padding/carpet fitted, you can't miss it.

ok, and how to program a new/used unit? Avdi capable of this? or is there a eeprom or mcu to swap inside?
