Hello Everyone,

I am looking to split a signal from one open box to three TV's.

I have purchased this:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B005FW3URI/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Duronic HS14 for those of you that know about the product.

and I am using a 1x2m HDMI cable and 2x10m HDMI cables. I guess what I would like to know is, could the splitter do damage to my TV with it's power supply? And what other dangers should I look out for when setting this up?

thank you in advance.

You need a triax modulator or get another box

Won't that box do the job then?

All I really want it to do is just send the picture from one box (skybox f3), no need to change channels or anything like that.

So a triax modulator will allow we to send the picture from one skybox to three tv's through co-ax cable?

Would the method I suggested not work?

I think there is a bit of confusion with what I want to do.

As odd as it may be, I don't want the ability to change the channel from the other TV's, all I want to be able to do is watch the same channel from the one skybox.
The way I am trying to do it is by having a HDMI cable from the box going into the device (Duronic HDMI splitter), then have three outputs going into three different TV's.

So would the Duronic HDMI splitter cause any damage to TV due to amplifying the signal or the power supply to it?

Please read the specs one box 3 TV can get any easier if it's just a modulator you need without the extras I have a few in the attic

Modulator way is the cheapest and easiest?

I don't see why that HDMI splitter should cause any damage to your TV. Have you read the reviews? It seems to get a pretty good overall review.

The problem with using a modulator, is that the quality will be much lower than that through the HDMI splitter.

From reading at the very start of this thread from what i can gather the OP wants to distribute HD quality picture from his Openbox to 3 other TV's via 1 x 2m HDMI cable going from Openbox into Duronic HDMI splitter and then 3 x 10m HDMI cables to exisitng TV's

I have no idea where the mention of the Triax tr-link even came from seeing as it is of inferior picture quality compared to HD transfer as stated above by Hadron.

The Duronics wont cause any problems with the TV's as the power supply is merely acting as a Switcher type Booster for the HDMI outputs, I have not used this brand myself but have used 2 way HDMI powered splitters without any issues so i would imagine this will be absolutely fine.

My only cause for concern is the 10m HDMI cable runs seeing as your pretty much nearing the Limit in lengh wise to where HDMI could see loss issues unless you buy a quality brand HDMI cable and not some cheap ?7.50 jobby off ebay.

That's the way Digicon, two 10m connections and one 1.5m connection.
The cables I have bought are:

KabelDirekt 10m Top Series High Speed HDMI Cable with: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004XJC6ZG/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)

and IBRA? 1.5m High Speed PLATINUM Range 1.4 HDMI Cable 3D: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B007VP8D9C/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)

Excuse my ignorance, I did not actually know it mattered what HDMI cable was used...Perhaps this is why I have never been able to get 3D TV :joyous:

cable quality does matter over large runs, usually splitters are used say for one room and 2 screens but not for other rooms in house, did i hear something like cat6 over hdmi is used to send cable to any room where needed and the socket on the wall looks like a hdmi port.some ideas below.

Interesting idea, did not think it could be done like that.
Hopefully the stuff I have ordered will do the job and no damage will be done.
I know I won't actually use the full 10m but didn't want to fall short, nothing more annoying that needing that extra 1m.

i ordered 2 lengths of hdmi cable as i was putting it behind box panelling and when i got to the other end it was 1 foot longer having taped them together every metre or so
new houses can be wired with cat6 to all rooms so everything is neat.

I am only going off what is supposedly the recommended distance for a non branded HDMI cable and this is apparently 10m in lengh anything above and you should be purchasing a branded cable such as Ixos, Monster Audioquest etc...

Never tested it myself as i have always used Cat5e over long distance runs although for the price of the cables in your link its worth a shot.

HDMI lost the 1.2,1.2a,1.3,1.3a,1.4 moniker's a long time ago the standard is as follows

HDMI Standard, HDMI Standard with ethernet, HDMI HI-Speed etc... have a read here: HDMI :: Manufacturer :: HDMI 1.4 :: Finding the Right Cable (http://www.hdmi.org/consumer/finding_right_cable.aspx)

Usually I get these ideas but not this one, I get the jist of it but is that not going to need a lot of those eth/hdmi ports?

I would say stick with your original plan of the 3 HDMI's and see how you go if it works great if not try something else

I would suggest hdmi matrix 4x4 or 4x2 can usually be got for around ?25-30. 10m runs of hdmi will work with the matrix due to the power supply although for runs any longer or for more flexibility and neater look possibly use cat5e to hdmi baluns.

Using a matrix as opposed to a switch gives you more flexibility for furture upgrade.

A link for the ?25-?30 HDMI Matrix 4x4 switch would be great as Matrix units are usually priced for anything between ?500 to around ?16,000

I just received everything today and everything is up working brilliantly, no noticeable drop in sound or picture quality. Early days as it has only been setup for an hour. Now all I need to do is fix this skybox!

Just tried it again there now, there seems to be issues with picture disappearing on TV. Would you have any links for a matrix unit digicon?

Edit: It works but it was being temperamental for a moment

You can find the Matrix units pretty much everywhere but a decent one as i previously posted start at around ?500 and probably not something you need anyway.

Basically a Matrix unit lets you plug multiple items into the unit say F5,Blu Ray, Freesat HD box etc... and then has X amount of outs so basically every TV you feed has access to what you have plugged into the matrix.

all you require is F5 being fed to 3 TV's which is what a HDMI splitter is for, As with anything what you pay for one and its Build wise will show when its running

CYP are a decent brand with both Commercial and domestic use but there cheapest 1x3 HDMI splitter is just shy of ?190 as i said you get what you pay for

Ah maybe not just yet, not ready for that sort of commitment lol but will definitely look into for the future.

The only issue I am having with the splitter is that it tends to make loud scratch like noises especially after the splitter is just turned on, was shitting myself that the TV blew but then turned it off and back on again. Other than that there isn't any worth while picture or audio degradation reporting, it is doing it's job which is all I can ask for :top:

Thanks for all the advice though, much appreciated.

sorry i meant the 2x4 matrices can be bought for ?25-30 on auction site or possibly dealextreme

i did managed to get wyrestorm 4x4 matrix for just over ?100 on ebay used but in new condition. I think I was lucky, but foe me run s brilliantly. the old 2x4 worked well and in some ways better than 4x4... but i definately need more outputs so will be selling the 2x4 soon.
