Hi all.I have just bought a vu+duo with the vix firmware installed.I have a 1tb drive reformatted to fat32,so will I have to re install the vix image once I fit the drive.

No you may have to Mount the drive in the settings and initialise it, Someone using the Vix image will be able to clarify better

No, just mount the HD and it will go through the format process, before it can be used. After format make a Image backup, and settings backup.
