View Full Version : What is my best option (motorised, dreambox etc., slingbox, xbmc etc., others?)

I've been doing my best to read up and think i understand how most things work.
Things i'm interested in:
PL football
Rugby League (superleague and NRL)
Cycling (would be great to get rai sport for races eurosport doesn't have)
US Sports
UFC
I don't mind putting in a bit of work to set things up but i want something reliable and low maintenance. I also want to be able to watch in HD where possible and to be able to record.
Where a solution leaves content gaps that would be ok if there was an easy fill-in (i can download cycling from cyclingtorrents.nl). HD is highly preferable and ability to record is essential.
One idea i had was a slingbox share with someone in the US with a premium package as i could have BT Sport (ufc ppv) and entertainment extra + to give eurosport for my cycling (at a discount, have never paid full price) and them pvr capability. But there may be cheaper alternatives (essentially if i go down the slingbox route it just needs to be plugged into a pvr which has bt sport). If anyone has any info on slingbox sharing then i'd love a link as i can't any unofficial info.
Apologies if this isn't the right forum and i would be very grateful if anyone could offer some advice as to the best solution. The first year costs must be ?600 or less (preferably less).
Thanks for any help (i think i have accept e-mail from other members turned on if that helps).

a 1meter motorised dish with a tm5402hd and external hdd will get you football, rugby, cycling us sports and ufc through softcam/biss/fta/feeds and get yourself a fsfs card with bt sports on.. all this will come in at around your budget of ?600,regards mdt

Thanks. So softcam is available free on here and i can put file straight onto box (if i have patched) with usb? Don't suppose i can get a pm or e-mail with where to find biss keys (found freqb*ss on facebook but nothing like softcam where it's all in one place). Also by feeds do you mean web-feeds?
Now; let's say i have a motorised dish, i guess you can only record from one satellite at a time? But could i have my current murdoch dish (pointed at astra 28.2 obviously) connected to the box as well?
I take it that i could connect one dish to two boxes, so if i couldn't get some US stuff i wanted (i'm actually almost certain i couldn't get a lot of the stuff from a directv top package which gives pretty much every game being televised in the states) i could slingbox a cheap sat box (i'd connect to a small hdd, then they'd have full control as long as channels remained unencrypted right?). Which leads to next question; would having two boxes require two c-lines?
As you can see i'm only interested in going to the trouble if i can get everything i want. It's actually not the money that puts me of murdoch so much as the things i want being spread (so need murdoch sub, bt sub, would need premier sub but no way i'm paying just for NRL in sd) and still not getting loads of stuff (breaking bad only on netflix, murdoch not having all the movies, plenty of good us tv shows not on in uk, stupid eurosport not showing notre dame cfb games or fox cfb games even though they own the rights).
Sorry for being dense (i'm actually a quick learner but there's a lot to learn).

you didnt look far on this forum as biss keys are lower down the page http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/f11/53east-30west-b-i-s-s-keys-311910/
cant talk about c lines or sly on here , check the rules
you wont get usa channels if you are in the uk or europe, not possible to get their satellites never mind the encryption issues, just a few on 15 west only
a sly plus box has 2 feeds, so you need a twin tuner box to replicate it with 2 separate feeds like a solo 2 or duo 2 , meaning you need a multiple output lnb too
you could have a motorised feed and a sly dish feed on a twin tuner box , one to each tuner

Google search and ctrl +f were for biss without dots (doh).
Apologies for mentioning c-lines; thought a general query would be ok (found answer).
If a channel moves location i'd obviously have to re-tune before i could record it i guess.
But how do b.i.s.s. and sofcam keys actually work?
I thought that channel encryptions were constantly changing hence the need for gifts; or do the free keys only access non-premium channels that use an outdated form of encryption? What happens when a key changes? Can i record that channel and then watch after i get the latest update?
Edit: Maybe i need an idiot's guide, just reading about mgcamd and it's all going over my head.
It's kind of hard to find a good faq for a lot of things and there's so much to learn so i apologise for all the questions.
