Just wondering if doing the tensioner is a big job any hint anyone

IIRC they are a little difficult.
If you are trying to fix a belt noise then retrofit a "one way alternator pulley" from a mondeo.

what exactly do you mean surely a cheap pulley from fleebay will cure the noise ?27 all in

I mean that jaguars have a solid alternator pulley fitted from the factory. Change it for a clutched pulley that the mondeos use. I have done it a few times to fix flappy belt noises.

I have also seen the tensioners broken, the rubber bushes wear out on the damper/shock bit and that knocks metal on metal.
