Its been said before but as the old saying goes 'How longs a piece of String' no one knows everything from this point onwards is pure speculation, The ID pairing procedure has been about for about 18 months and has slowly worked for a lot of the Cards but this is something new and could be to do with the Interactive/Subtitle side to how the transmission is broadcast.
In other words an Official receiver can handle this change everything else cannot

if and when this happens, what options have we users without cable got?

A Motorised satellite System does not have to be expensive or large an 80cm dish size will garnish you with 1000's of channels spread across the satellite ARC

If Official receivers can handle this ? whats different from FTA and scrambled channels, surely if it is done by digital code
someone in the know could work it out, if its done by computer it can be undone?
look where we were a few years ago.

Not all official receivers can handle it, that's why Thomson and some Samsung HD receivers are being swapped out. Non-HD boxes cannot handle it and are not being swapped out, so you can draw your own conclusions about SD channels.

what about my F5s, have I just bought a paper weight Lol :blue:If everything does go then you can use box for FTA channels (ie freesat).
I feel sorry for those that have only recently bought ?150+ box and plan on using it for 28.2. Now that is a waste unless other methods become adopted instead

well it only cost 40 plus the 12 months, and i still have my sly plus hd ,the f5s is just a toy to wind up the wife
so not to bothered if it all goes t@ts up. are you telling me better boxes will be ok ?
also if im receiving other hd channels what are they doing to stop some?

28th April, 2014, 07:15 PM
It's said that they have started on a few HD channels (little watched ones) to see if it also affects original $ky boxes. It's expected that over coming weeks (assuming $ky don't run into unexpected problems) that all HD will go. SD could then go after but as previously said this is all speculation and as for any timeframes that is again speculation on how long.

Do you really think that card pairing is also a result of the introduction of MHEG-5?

On this I have to agree....Yes its handy not having to use a genuine Sly box but no-way will I seek a replacement method or viewing their channels.
Cable for me isn't an option as they never bothered their arses to run a cable down our street.
80%+ of what I watch anyway is on freeview or available to stream online.

$ky italy, I'm sure I read, has just SD channels working now and even recently some have reported odd few SD not working.
All non-official boxes have the same problem even the more expensive ?200+ boxes.

Just a thought.

The main reason i got mine was purely for the sport channels, couldn't care less about another repeat of top gear, friends or TBBT, but i get your point.
could someone 'in the know' explain what the other options are ( if any ) that we have to get around this assuming it goes ahead etc ?

Get a motorised set up and try and get what you want from that or pay for a sub and go legit.

With regards to current situations, so far it's not looking good as it's apparently hardware specific and no one has found a way of reading the chip as it's encrypted.

NO! at the moment there is not a 3rd party receiver that can cope with the new algorithm that has been implemented on the HD channels, Eventually they will all Go Full Stop.
If you want to carry on viewing the HD channels once they are gone or the 7 that are currently missing then you will need an Official subscription

Only a guess mate ..but i would say every box VU..Dream & all the rest
Silly question but have to ask.....is this just happening in the UK or is the rest of Europe involved ??
i would guess if they all go in the UK - Europe is next on the list....so even with a motorized dish & a multi sat Magical part....the end is close
Thank god for 39.2E & the othre sat's that you can still use S**t C**s on lol ;)
Come on Mr far east man get your finger out your A**e & get working on it Lots of US dollar's to be made lol ;)

When i said 3rd party receiver that literally means every single receiver available at this moment in time so yes what ever box you have unless its an official one the HD will be gone soon enough

Different satellites and different packages and of course different parts of the world means lots of different encryptions so 28.2? east may end when who knows but the rest of the world will be here for a very long time

Your probably looking at 19.2? east as the German and Spanish main channels well around 70% have a dual language option, To benefit from the most english language channels you really need a motorised dish setup

You will need to re-pair your card to the box. Either online and if that don't work you'll have to ring them and pair it that way.

Australia also do not have the same subscriber base as the UK does, UK subscribers amount to Half the population of Australia then configure in the fact that half again are SD subscribers so a certain company has its work cut out to swap out SD for HD receivers before anything major happens

Either way, it might be a big job to swap out the boxes but if they wish to grow their company so it's viable. Then it's makes good business sense to swap out these boxes. Yes it while take a long time and cost a huge amount of money but for them in the long run its a wise investment. Here's to hoping it takes them a lifetime. Wishful thinking.

why is it a wise investment? it only takes one boffin to sort hd and thats it all that money wasted again. There is always away round things. It will be worth loads of wonga to that boffin!!
