The government?s announced a ?6 annual levy on fixed phone line users to fund next generation broadband; unelected PM Cash Gordon said broadband was now as important domestic fuel and water. Also there are proposals to divide up the BBC license fee and share it with ITV as well as investment to combat illegal internet file sharing.
Forgive me for thinking that if broadband is indeed that important and essential infrastructure then perhaps he should dig into the proceeds of the ?29 billion pot they made off the 3 g network auction or from the gold reserves they sold at copper prices or from the sales of utilities the rails the skies and everything else, they effectively pimped ours services lied to us then opened a flea market and sold our property to any tom dick or Johnny foreigner holding us to political ransom. Or maybe our once nationalized interests only ever cost us rather than profited us in which case the government will now be in a better position to invest in essential infrastructure.

A cynic might think the government will sell anything it can stick a price on, sure we all know politicians are honorable who work tirelessly and selflessly for electorate and would never knowingly mislead or exploit their positions for finance gain , but now that we are 30 years down the road from where privatization started ,when we were told we could all profiteer and have better services/lives but we only bought what we already owned then paid more again for what we used, the biggest sleight of hand in history and now the phone users have to stump up the investment for broadband which they may or may not use but will certainly have to pay a premium again for using which will also belong to the shareholders, we were told the road to privatization was paved with as much gold as you could eat, it would bring prosperity to all and much needed investment to improve services, but shareholders aren?t altruistic and want profits, which translates into the user/tax payer paying several times over, we were told to buy buy buy when the government was sell sell sell , now the well?s run dry and there?s nothing left to sell other than liberty and that?s now on the endangered list, we?ve abandoned our once great and world innovative industry and real genuine investment are now relics of a bygone age, bankers have become the new gods and stock markets their churches who whimsically play chicken with peoples lives and livelihoods, whilst accountants manage health trusts schools and other public services and play god , what would cause this apparent upside- downness , perhaps we are living in some kind of alternate universe.
isn?t all just another example of pick pocketing, I dare say it won?t to long before the government will employ another unelected body perhaps Derren Brown as advisor to conjure up some cunning tricky.
