:bawling::bawling::bawling:Hi I am using VAG K+COMMANDER 3.6 To read the ecu as I read the file the program says reading file address goes through each address one by one the question is how long does it normally take to download the file as it seems to take hours going through each address and never gets to the end so I give up.
another question do you need the ignition on with engine running or just the ignition on or can you do it with it off.

Thanks for your advice.:withstupid::withstupid::withstupid:

Ignition on, engine NOT running and I'd advise you use another tool specifically for flashing ECU's and not an old clone K+can commander, it'll just end in tears

was only using vag k+commander to read as I did not want to risk writing to ECU with this tool was going to pay someone to write the file once re-map file was done .
Can you advise a relatively cheap alternative for reading and flashing you never mentioned how long it normally takes.

thanks for your advice.

Based on the tool you were trying to use, I'd assume it's an EDC15, and this I'd recommend an MPPS, mine never let me down on these older vag ECU's. Probably should only take a couple of minutes.

I use more expensive original tools now though.

That kind if thing should be ok, though being EDC16, (assume it's 105hp) it's worth getting a BDM tool so that you've got a good recovery point, should things go wrong. In my opinion, never start unless you are able to recover should the worst happen.

Consider a galletto V2 then you've got BDM aswell for a reasonably cheap price, all depends on your budget. My first decent tool was a powergate S master

This is going to end in tears.... Remapping cars is not simple, quick, cheap or easy. MPPS clone's DO brick ECU's, amateur's using BDM tools destroy ECU's....

Fully understand where your coming from can be very expensive if you don't do your homework this is what I am doing there is no way I would ever write to my ECU at present all I want to do is read the ECU at present I will pay someone who is experienced to write to my ECU as I believe it would be foolish at this time and a very expensive mistake.

Maybe later after a few beers LOL:joyous:

I totally agree with you in principal , but let's be honest, how many now decent tuners started out this way??? I know a few. You've never used a clone tool??? And anyway, I've seen genuine tools brick ECU's, It's how you deal with that part which counts, and precisely why I suggested having a means of recovery.

I have just purchased one of ebay but on that site there is no guarantee normally the price is higher for original but you can still get ripped off when they tell you its original probably the best is to buy from a retailer in your area at least its easier to return. research research is the answer.
