Yes with VCDS you can see, it can be VDO or Visteon with , before 09/2006 is VDO, after 09/2006 Visteon,

Can anyone recommend a budget cable to read write the dash on golf plus 2006 1.9 tdi. and give me a link Thanks as many claim to do dash but when purchased you discover there a load of crap.

For Visteon you need very good tool which is not cheap, better is to read eeprom and post here, sure somene will help you to edit.

This dash goes with AVDI, maybe DIGIPROG, that's cost 1000$+, if you don't have that like I sad you better is to buy eeprom programmer, open dash and find eeprom and read it, that will be 60$, you can buy CARPROG, it's good eeprom programmer, good for some cars with OBD, for radio and AIRBAG,

Yes, but when he see price, like I understand he don't have equipment for this, vag prog is too expensive for him, this method with eeprom is cheapiest for him.

Thanks for the advice in for a penny in for a pound is this the sort of tool I need Ross-Tech VCDS VAG-COM Diagnose HEX CAN BASE KIT OBD 2 Genuine New | eBay (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ross-Tech-VCDS-VAG-COM-Diagnose-HEX-CAN-BASE-KIT-OBD-2-Genuine-New-/271467282104?pt=UK_Diagnostic_Tools_Equipment&hash=item3f34b5feb8) if I am going to spend ?500 on a tool I would rather it done the majority of cars is this tool an all rounder or is there a better tool that does all singing and dancing for approximately the same price.

looking at the big picture it could cost me this plus more in the long run if you f--- the ECU up :beheaded: so might as well pay out providing I can get an all rounder for a reasonable price.

I am not understand for which operation you need tool, VCDS is for diagnostic, you are not be able to read PIN, change mileage..

I am saying if I am paying over ? 500 out for a new tool to read write to dash. Is there a tool for around the same price that can do everything example reset DTC'S e.g. airbags engine ECU re-write and so on.
will pay more for the right tool.

You can buy cheap carprog clone to read the eeprom for (55-70usd)
Then post eeprom here and someone will help you.

After first job your new carprog clone is already paid and still does quite a bit of stuff.

Carprog cant do visteon dash. It can do micronas by obd tool.
