hi there,
I am thinking about purchasing a 500s. Do all boxes have an image already installed? Or do I have to download an image and then install the image?

Thank you for your response which confirmed my suspicions. So I guess I will have to take a chance and see what I am sent. I do not relish the idea, as a newbie of having a box with no image on it, but that is life!

Thank you for reponse and the link to How to use Dreamup. However I can see another problem on the horizon. I do not seem to have an application to extract .rar files... any suggestions? Or will the zip file intended for DM600PVR be compatible?

no mate.. most files are zipped (ZIP or WinRAR) as they are smaller zipped and easier to upload to the internet..
best program to get is WinRAR
http://www.rarlab.com/rar/wrar39b3.exe
its free.. after 30 days or so it says "WinRAR is not free you need to purchase" but it carries on opening files forever.. so dont pay ;)

Thanks again for you advice re .rar and .zip and the link to winrar. I am just preparing myself for all eventualities should the box i buy be imageless.

the box you buy may come with an image you dont like or want.. so its always best to change it.. just to make sure the config file hasnt been tampered with

thanks OpsMonkey, I now have file copies of various images now that I have installed WinRar. I don't know why but i thought that WinZip could deal with .rar files!

WinRAR is faster and handles more file types than Win Zip..
You can use WinRAR to extract from .zip but not Win Zip for .rar
