time to be thinking about a new van , but have to get this one back on road again first , this is a proper head scratch.
in past 14 months it has been a non start twice , both times it was duff crankshaft sensor , so when same symptons today and a non start again , off i went picked up a new crankshaft sensor and this time no joy not crank sensor , so my mate changed the cam sensor , this time started once , but then not the 2nd time, so still a non start .
he checked fuel filter , plenty of diesel getting their and comming out , but no diesel at injectors when cranking , hes been on to his mate in renault who says it sounds like the plug and lead to the crank sensor and or cam sensor need changing , so off to get these in morning and see .
if no choice its off to garage to have injectors , common rail etc all checked , im getting a new van in october , so timing for this is shit , opcom , abrites etc all throw up no fault codes at all , so reading net , its a part swapping lottery.
bloody french wiring.

I'd go with the connector (on the wire) of the crank sensor being corroded I fixed a family members vivaro with the same issues, I soldered a connector to the crank sensor and filled with epoxy glue, then used spade connectors on the wires so it can be removed easy still.
Not had 1 problem since

I fu**ing hate French vans! Mine's been off the road around 5 times in the last 12 months! New clutch and Flywheel, egr valve, starter motor, lower engine mount (nightmare of a job), anti roll bar bushes, etc, etc. Now the central locking has failed and also the van has started losing power for a split second around 1800rpm.
This is my second French van and the first one gave me a bit of trouble, i should of learnt the first time! NEVER AGAIN!
Next van is a Transit Custom

Was just about to buy a renault traffic, thinking twice now. I had a vivaro for my AA van, was an 08 plate and the only problem in 80,000 miles was the pedal box broke.
And as for transits, They not that good either!!
I got a connect van and its in the garage more than its on the road just lately, and I get called to diagnose plenty of them too.
Time for a vito???

Yeah i was thinking about the vito myself, i like the size of it, not too big. But i've heard they can give electrical problems.
Sometimes its just luck of the draw with vans, i know a few people that have had no major issues with their French vans, one guy has 200k+ on his van and all its had is a new clutch. My one has done 80k and is falling apart.

hello martin, thats the reason that i am not buying vivaro, traffic, etc, before 100000 miles you have to change timing belt, stuff at great cost, G.box goes at ?3000, turbo as well.
is the immo light on steady, flashin fast,or goes off? there was one at the garage, immo light flashing, the fuel pump had gone,i was told theres important relay, near off side front wing too, which plays up, as well as 3 fuses next to the main car batt.
i am in a hunt too, but ren.like above, vito start error, i probably go for good old transit.
ps if anyone thinking of buying or has a transit, please upgrade the wiring loom inside the sliding door to a armoured type @around ?170, since gipos cut this loom to get into the van in seconds!!

if u dont have fault code , look in live data and see while cranking , u will see Rpm of the crank sensor .
you need a flow meter to check over flow from each injector , if one injector is bad u will have no pressure on the rail and the engine will never start
some Bosch common rail have a regulator on the rail it self , so u will need to understand the vehicle engine to fix it .

I drive a transit and its not without its faults. But I've heard the new renault master is a good van with a 5 year unlimited mileage warranty surely this will trickle down to the traffic/viriao range

I cant afford a T5 (or dont want too!), 8 year old T5 is same price as new vivaro or traffic, trannies are crap, mercs are mercs, and i hate all mercs so looks like a moped and a ruksack :)
At least I wont be stuck in traffic, like I have been all bloody day :(

I've had 2 trafic/vivaro's The first 1 had for 3 years, only a non starter once, other then that basic stuff like alternators and normal serviceable parts. Was an old van too, did feel like it was falling apart when I sold it. Got an 08 plate 10 months ago, touch wood no issues to report as of yet. As stated above mileage is important like any car/van if you get something in the 60k everything will need changing within the next 20k, I buy em with 100k plus now. (everything is been done) (I hope|)
Transporters as lovely but bloody expensive, Think the van to go for is the Toyota hiace nothing inside be lucky to get a car lighter as standard but just works.

My trafics done 220k still going strong, obviously with regular maintenance including the usual gearbox, clutch, alternator etc etc over the years.
For me the comfort and ease of use is paramount and this is just like driving a car, i am happy with it it . Aircons essential for the few hot days
The common wiring fault that causes all sorts of problems is the white block connector under the expansion bottle. Starting issues, loss of power, air mass fault codes etc especially when it has been raining

well for my vivaro its looking to be as bad as it gets , garage confirming for sure on monday , but fairly sure wheel in the pump sheered , sadly just a new pump isnt an option , they fornd some swarf in filter and may well be ?2000 to ?2500 for new pump , injectors and pipework if i want it fixed , or a bodge to get it running and trade it in to vauxhall.
ouch
my last vivaro 290k with just usual things , this one has cost a fair bit , so now the decision to fix or get rid , ive got it custom fitted out so may just fix and take the pain

sod all that wash the pipes/injectors and fit new pump

what and then get rid ?
looking on internet , lots saying after high pressure fuel pump commits suicide and swarf is found in filter on the 1.9 cdti models , that not changing injectors and pipes will cause death to pump again or engine .
not a cheap job , seen prices on forums of new pump , injectors and pipework exceeding 3k .

The problem is if you pay the ?3k and then something else goes wrong in a few months time. In my experience once you've got a 'problem' van then there's just one thing after another, i'd patch it up and get rid.

its not been that bad till now , in 4 years other than normal service parts , brakes track rod ends etc , its just had an oil leak sorted and top struts .
il wait and see how much garage come back at , the vauxhall forums can be misleading , some say ?1800 some say ?3k , so until they tell me on monday ive no idea what its going to be .

just get the lines flushed good, and injectors cleaned if they still work then just a waste of ?? to replace.
if they cleaned properly then theres no reason to get rid urgent until your ready.
