I have been using 2.0 mm to cut Hu66 Vag keys, does anybody use another size, and do you get better results with any other size, such as 1.5 mm or 2.5 mm? Can they even be cut properly with either of the two sizes mentioned, I have not tried this. Any and all answers appreciated.:joyous:

ESP/ Wenxing manual. Originate the old fashioned way with depth keys. It's cheap, but does the job.

The smaller the cutter, the more "notchy" they key will feel if it is used on a manual key machine, CNC will not matter.
It's not the size that counts, its how you use it...

On A5 I cut all laser keys @1.9mm with 2mm bit.
As 2.0 doesn't always work esp with HU92 and HU66 and VA2/VA6.
But this is per machine and what works for me prob won't for other kit

I guess you're talking about manual key cutting machine. I use Ilco Orion. It came with 3mm standart HSS. For VAG, MB, BMW, Opel(HU43), Volvo(HU56, NE66), Peugeot(HU83, NE78), Ford(HU101), Honda(HON66) I use 3mm carbid cutter(much better, especially for hard blades from China). For FIAT(SIP22), PSA(VA2), Opel(HU101), Toyota(TOY40, TOY48) I use 2,3mm cutter.

The reason why I really wanted to know- I keep breaking the 2.0 mm, and thought maybe 2.5 would be just enough to keep the breakage down to a reasonable level. Right now I break one about every 20 keys or so.

One more thing - try not to cut all the depth at once. Better on 2 or even 3 steps and you won't break a single cutter anymore

I buy in ebay from china 5$ pcs 2.5 mm very very strong, it's so strong that it's cut the machine jaws and not break I even short it a little to fit silca viper machine and cut it many many keys without a single problem, before it I used silca cutters and break 3 cutters in 2 months on china blanks, pm me for more info if you need , I 100% positive you cannot break this cutter!
