A SHOCKING 72 people a day ? or three every hour ? are stabbed or robbed at knifepoint.

Figures released yesterday show there were nearly 26,300 serious knife crimes last year. Alarmingly, the number of offences has soared by nearly 1,500 since the year before ? a six per cent hike.

Official police figures show last year?s knife crimes included 250 attempted murders and 7,500 cases of wounding with intent.

Cops also recorded 1,800 grievous bodily harm offences and 13,600 robberies at knifepoint.

There were 3,300 robberies of business property. But the figures do NOT include more than 250 fatal stabbings or thousands of more minor knife offences.

More than a third of all serious knife crimes ? 10,497 ? happened in London, according to the figures obtained under Freedom of Information.

There were big rises in Greater Manchester, where they shot up from 2,294 to 2,881, a 25 per cent increase.

There was a 19 per cent rise in the West Midlands, from 2,303 to 2,740. Biggest increase was 72 per cent in rural Avon and Somerset, from 360 to 618.

Shadow Home Secretary Chris Grayling said the Government war on knife crime had failed. He said: ?There must be real deterrents.?

CONSECUTIVE GOVERNMENTS HAVE BEEN AFRAID TO IMPOSE ANY SORT OF DETERENT ON THOSE CHOOSING TO CARRY KNIVES ,IF I WERE TO WALK DOWN THE STREET BRANDASHING A GUN I WOULD GET 5 YEARS MINIMUM. SO WHY NOT GIVE OUT 5 YEAR SENTANCE TO FOLK CARRYING KNIVES AS THEY BOTH KILL.

I got lifted for carrying knves... in the boot of my car... inside my locked tackle box... surrounded by fishing gear and gutted mackarell...
The cops where adamant that i was carying concealed weapons and confiscated it during a "routine stop check."
one was a lovely orange dayglo floating handled filleting knife (more likely to do me harm than anyone i would even attempt to stab) the other was a straight up bait cutter same colour (it was a 2 part set) and the last was a chubby little gut hook with a finger hole in it to well gut fish. All designed with fishing in mind, highly visible rather than easily concealed, the mind boggled as they all got confiscated.

Yet some wee arsehole can wander down the highstreet brandishing a machette and get away clean?
The thing that gets me is that every knife ive seen since to replace them looks like a lethal weapon, designed for ninjas or swat teams or some kind of black ops scuba diver.
Yet these easily concealed weapons with only one purpose in mind are allowed to be openly sold?

The uk justice system is in an abysmal and hearbreaking state.

i had a discussion with a fishing pal who is a police officer and he said that if your knife is inside a tackle box or in a fishing bag yhen you have no reason to have your knife confiscated, did you ghet thier nombers.
