hi guys

was asked to look at a focus today, 2006

the dash was flickering and what not and the immo light flickering really fast and
the car not starting !

i thougth nice easy job just reflow the 9s12
i did this by reslodering the whole of the chip so new solder was added to every leg
the dash display is now working better but the car still does the flickering of lights

strange thing is she said the car seems to go into limp mode too !

very strange

im thinking it was the dash thats faulty
car starts up fine without it connected too.

certain light son the dash stay lit too when it pi$$es about
display goes to dashes - - - - -
and then immo light flashed fast and willl not start
if i take key out and lock n unlock a few times and cycle ignition a few times it works as normal
but upon sat idling talking to her it just started flickering after about 5 mins
then she said if she drives it its in limp mode

has anyone got any ideas ?

im thinking to change the dash out wiht the same one
and read the 9s12 contents and transfer it over to the donor dash

any input here appreciated

Rrsolder the main connector, you have to remove needles and display

I think aswell is better read and write in an used one. Otherwise if the resolder work was well done next step is to remove the 9S12. At this point I suggest you write in a new one.
Hope you fix it!

tbh guys when i finished reslodering
i remember i never resoldered the dash plug
the car refuses to start now at all
diagnostics will not talk to anythign in the car
so may be the ecu is fluffed ????

on a side note im going to try start teh car without the dash as it ran before without the dash
so whats stopping it starting !!

i will take dash out now and go over solder not reflowed.

Not sure where your car is as you state 2 locations but Immo is in dash on Uk cars so will not start without dash under normal conditions. Car will still run if you start with dash but then remove though.

Hi, just a guess. You might have shorted the hi CAN wires somehow in the resoldering job. This caused the whole communication network down and engine computer may not start. one way to check is to probe the voltage of the wires.

When you disconnected the dash, the short was gone and communication resumed.

It's all good now that it's fixed!!
