ok people iv'e been off the ciggies for 2 and a half yaers now after being a smoker for about 28 years. i was smoking 25 to 30 a day. i gave up for the simple reason that i was the only one at home who smoked and the price of them as well and ok my health lol. i used champix tablets to help me qiut witch i got off my gp and found they really helped as i though i would never give up the dread weed. what i would like to know is how other people have given up. did you use tablets will power or were you hypnotised as some people say this works.. and if your thinking of giving up iam sure there is plenty of people on dk to give some moral support when needed. cheers ..maca..

I weaned myself down to 5 a day then i went and got champix and 14 days later i just wasnt interested anymore in cigs and that was 6 months ago and i havent had the slightest inclanation to have a fag, it pops into my head from time to time but i soon forget about it and get on with something else.
Cant say ill never have another but time will tell, hopefully that will be the case as i smoked for 30 years.

ive seen champix mentioned a few times here it is a very good aid to giving up but its a drug that works on the central nervous system so if u r on other medication that works on the cenral nervous system chances r u wont get it, just thought u would like to know.I know peeps who have using it and they r doing well, so if u can get it give it a go :D

i gave up 8 years ago with the help of zyban. was off the ciggies after 3 days and not had a single puff since and i never will. before i passed my driving test in jan 09 i listed it as my biggest achievement. well done to those who have given up and managed to stay off them - its not easy i know.

i gave up for well over a year by exercising, i wanted a smoke i would do situps, pushups and pullups till my body could outscream my head.
Worked well for me and kept me from putting weight on from quitting, i even got a ripped appearance for a while.
Alas i would up at an awards ceremony and it was free champagne and cigars... and well... it would be impolite to decline, 12 cigars later and i was pumping change into the nearest smoke machine.

I gave up smoking just over 3 months ago and I have saved nearly ?800, my other half gave up at the same time as me so between the 2 of us we have prob saved nearly ?1500, so if ma arithmetic is right we should save about ?6000 in a year, thats a nice holiday or new car or whatever she wants to spend it on lol.
Me and her have done it cold turkey (not easy for me) at first it was hard with the cravings, the odd passive smoke wi ma pals ootside the pub :smokin: but av got through it, then the feeling ill stage, a tell you at the time a thought a felt better smoking than giving up, but the doctor said that a would feel worse before a got better, and now I can feel the benefits.
Its not easy by any means and for everyone that has gave them up a big :congrats:
JoKwell done jok m8 ..maca.

I have smoked for the past 25 years but only when i have a drink (4 days a week) and its time to stop. Wife joined weight watchers wanting to lose 1 & 3/4 stone, so I said if you hit your goal I'll pack the cigs in.Hit her goal just before xmas, so I sold my stock 600 cigs, now left with about 13 in my last packet and when they're gone thats me quitting.
