I have had 3 of these cars this week that only have standard key, customer wants remote key.

Problem is all of these cars were police cars, and when trying to add remote, ign on/off 4 times, i hear a chime, but then will not accept a remote.

Does anyone know how the remote access was disabled?

Car enters programming mode but not see remote signal.

Did they remove receiver? if so, where is it located?

Any help or info would be great as I have 3 of these to solve now :(

interesting... don't know but heard receiver next to rear-view mirror + did u know AVDI has special function > add remote. worth a try.
+ battery reset (will do with that Nissan Micra)

But as u already know some focuses don't have remote system. Did a key door lock for a 2005 - cos of no remote, it had worn out.
Customer said never had a remote from new - as basic model

Yeah last year a trader told me (in no uncertain words) with customer looking over shoulder "your useless, im going to dealer" lol lol dick
Can't do the impossible lol But in my case no chime so maybe something else in your case?

I belive that some polic forces use basic models for cost control.

Also that the module for the central locking on Fiesta Fusion etc is under dash above right drivers knee.
Has muliti connectors upto 5 i belive.
Anyhow apparently you can have moduals with cetral locking interface only and no rf remote etc .
Also on moduals with rf remote it state somthin like if module dropped more than a couple of feet discard so are delicate.
Maybe problem ?.
HTH just a few suggestions .

all mk2 focus had remote function, turn ign on/off 4 times and hear a 'bong' sound, so car defo has remote function, but the police have remote function disabled on ALL ford vehicles they use, even km7 transits with blue key, never got to the bottom of this, but now 3 customers waiting!!

ps - remote module is built into bsi on this focus, fuse box under passenger side dash.

Ford have always had a very close working arrangement with police,
and ford have made many special parts "just for police cars" and yes they were Mostly based around "Base" models.

Just one example.
when they were using, (some) Escorts they had zips sewn into head lining, for easy access to roof lights and ariels.

not all focus mk2 had remote.

owner went to dealer and been confirmed by vin that his basic model dont operate remotes.
so defo not all - but most had remote locking

Swap the GEM module with a later model Ghia or similar. No bong from clocks, but it will accept remote.
Ex ambulance/police Focus 2's always have non remote keys, no bong. Poverty spec...

Hi just to add for 05/06 focus check if has two locks passenger and drivers normally means no remote central locking, I had a customer who said it had remote but I rang two different dealers and said it didn't and still did not believe me so I checked and there wasn't any contacts in the fuse box to put a fuse in.

I have bong from clocks mate, but will not accept any remotes.

There is a lock on passenger door.

So, do i just swap fusebox/bcm/gem and it will work?

Not seen it first hand mate, but a friend of mine told me the door latches are different if the car has remote locking as standard.

Maybe it is only missing the receiver in the roof lining?
It works on 433 Mhz which may cause trouble for police radios that operate on the same/similar frequency.
Maybe they removed just because of that reason.

Just a thought.

Yep, simple as that mate. I think year/spec GEM is important as the RF aerial can be inside some GEM and not on others? Not too sure about that one, as customer supplied the GEM to me. Pain in the arse to swap them though, but no bong from his clocks at any point, which is weird.

Car was an ex police 55 plate 1.6 TDCi

emergency services in uk use 315mhz or close, thats why most automotive industry use 434 in uk, so sont think that a remote would trouble them in any way.

thanks for all replies, ill let you know how i get on.
