Solder Pots

Hi guys,
Recently bought my 1st cheap soldering pot to tin a number of wires.
Thing is i only had my normal 60/40 solder and it just went black (presume its flux or summot)
When i try and tin the wire (1mm) it doesn't really do it proper.

Can any1 tell me what im doing wrong:
wrong solder
Flux
wrong temp setting


Im guessing the flux is burning hence lots of smoke and black deposits.

Try to find some old solder before all this eec lead free crap came along, i find it much easier
to work with especially old wiring that is slightly contaminated.

Lead free needs more heat, but rumor states for repairs you can get leaded stuff

Ive got both old leaded stuff and newer. Its the old lead that smokes like crazy but i still prefer it.

Ill try and make a video on phone.

Reasons for doing it with a solder pot is that there's 126 wires and needs tinning both ends. Its brand new 1mm wire and takes a while especially since I've got 10 boards to make.
Ive made a few already the old fashioned way but want to save time that's all.
Its surprising how long it takes to solder and heat-shrink over 250 connections :(

my dad used to do armatures with an old solder pot & taught me back in the day. The key isnt the solder temps, its the work's temps, so if your solder is hot enough, you need to hold the work in there long enough to let it conduct enough heat for the solder to flow into the work

So your username on match.com, you take away the M on your DK name and that leaves eat-head so thats eat-head@hotmail.co.uk (eat-heat@hotmail.com). Or am i missing something here LMFAO!
