Hi dash is VDO 8P0 920 950 SX (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/281278122814?_trksid=p2059210.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT). Tried to be clever and transfer info directly in avdi CAN dash function (see pic) rather than rosstech adaption.

Transferred CS and set megamos IDs but still SAFE mode ?
Then tried rosstech adaption/AVDI key coding and pin code logon rejected ?

Anybody with experience of these.
What steps to take.

Advice greatly received -cheers

I might be way off here , but maybe the power class has something to do with it, just a thought, taking a chance actually :) (javascript:void(0))

'status' as well ?

Maybe i should

restore dash to before i touched it and change status & power class ?

Then adaption as rosstech instructions

Then change CS to match engine

Then write keys / Maybe via key programming

...its a plan but think could still go wrong if 'status' wrong?

Maybe some coding is in separate flash

Cheers

Safe mean cs are not matching , and clear faults also
Did you just wrote the original file in the new dash?

Open dash and move Micronas + 24C32 board?

Sadly original Micronas chip is nearly dead. Hence another dash. As you and totalkey said, part of coding is in the Micronas so just copying is not working.

Have to do adaption i think somehow rosstech way 1st?

Arrrr annoying guys

Steve, pages 31, 32, 36 and 37, manual explains how you can match the new cluster,to the car, good luck., failing that pm autofan, he is very good with dashes!

Thanks guys I'll recheck manual n contact member.

may also be enough life in old Micronas chip to read flash. Will check if my xprog/upa/red rosfar can read :)

Xprog 100% read, but read it until you get 100% verify OK,which will be hard to do.
Also I'll try to source a pinout for you,cuz it is not the same for Golf V.
Xprog picture not correct also.

Carried away seeing Micronas on avdi screen. Actually its a FUJITSU processor MB91F 366

and thread here http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/f174/a3-fujitsu-new-dash-need-adaptation-car-433813/

AVDI may write random values sadly and i may need SMOK X-Dash

That is what I feared.AVDI writes trash values into that dash.
I have heard about it,but never met it in person.

You need to change Status and Configuration, MAC ,PIin and CS, not Just CS and keys.
How many keys you have ?

Hi guys - thankfully AVDI writes ok - just read after a write to confirm :)
So bug fixed maybe. But....

I need help cos on key programming channel will not open. status changes but what to write??

ID: WAUZZZ8P16A2052953 --- FROM EDC16U1
CS: c2a2a76585454e ---- FROM EDC16U1 + LAST BYTE READ FROM ORIGINAL KEY
MAC: 413407d7 ---- FROM EDC16U1
LOGIN: 51729 ---- FROM EDC16U1

POWER CLASS: 37 --- FROM ANOTHER A3 1.9 TDI '08 ???

Tried writing megamos id directly but no difference.

So configuration and status - how are these made up???

Thanks guys

Ok i'll have another go. I did do a direct KeyID write from existing key (its reverse order).
But wil try again with new megamos chips.

Convinced its a 'status' or 'config' value problem.

Failing that will use dump off original. Falling that give up n sell cheese for a living lol

Wait what is the problem now?
You can't open channel to program key?

'safe' mode my friend. Wrote the megamos ID of both keys. didnt work so tried to program.

A member has given me a config value to try.
Convinced its a 'status' or 'config' value problem.

I'll keep trying cos ?200 down now with 2 dashes off ebay

So you have written correct data to the dash, but what about the key CS?

I asked you how may keys you have but you never answer?
You have SAFE because dash in New/Virgin mode.

This is for 2 keys, write this in Status and Configuration line:

STATUS : 00 00 51 fa fb

CONFIGURATION : 25 01 06 22 03 11

And add key ID in key ID box.

I have seen in this dash Power Class 51, I would go first with 51 , if no work you can put 37. I only seen 37 in Micronas.

Bet your right cos this dash originally looks like a repair job which was never used - virgin.

And the Power Class 37 was indeed read from a newer dash with LCD.

Cheers

What that has to do with anything.
I gave him answer on his problem. Cluster is in NEW/VIRGIN mode and has to be to adopted mode.
Solution with Status and Configuration from my post above should fix problem.

Success!!!
Thanks yugo & everybody for input - you all were gr8 help

Main problem was 1st purchased dash was in virgin state as said. So 2nd purchased dash proved ok
That's why channel for programming keys was closed!!

TIPS for buying this dash:
1) Always buy a 2nd hand dash which was working!!! Not a repaired 1 from dealer
2) Last part of P/N is not important ie 'R' or 'SX'
3) Maybe get dash with similar mileage (dont think can change?)

And -
Be careful with Megamos ID if writing direct (its a big endian/little endian thing)

One question -
Think original fault was actually just corrupt data as same thing happens now with 1st purchased dash
Dials move to max and displays "Diag" on display?? Its p/n 8P0-920-950-SX
Will search for other dumps on bench (but if any1 has it?)

Cheers again guys for help :) :) Merry Christmas

Weldone matey, would you remember the step by step procedure, incase we need to do one!, i have full vag key programming package,is this enough to do alignment? good experience now! thanks

22nd December, 2014, 05:15 PM
Yeah VAG key programming package + TagTool does the trick. Well pleased with AVDI cos of dash functions (except no f'in docs!!!)

Main tip is get a "used" working dash. 1 dash cost me ?160 yet another dash ?45.
The cheap one worked lol

---------------------------------
Anyway for ~2004 - ~2008 A3 TDI dashes - with no centre LCD (has FUJITSU MB91F366 cpu)
Later ones have Micronas cpu and an LCD.....

1) 1st if can't read info from faulty dash then go Special functions > "Engine ECU". Press "Read Config".
Copy 6 byte CS + MAC + VIN (will be in eeprom data). Mine was EDC16U1. Hopefully you can read yours!

2) Exit, then with your original key go into TagTool > Key prog? > Read 7th byte CS.
Don't bother writing a megamos when asked. As your only after 7th CS byte !!!!

3) Then go to Special functions > "CAN Dash". Read "config", then "read immo".
The tips here should help and mine was power class '37'.
Edit then write "config" and "write immo" once all updated. Switch off for 10s

4) Go back to 3 when doesn't work lol
Alternatively try programming keys the traditional Special functions > "Key Programming" if not going well.

5) Mileage can't be changed with this dash (non LCD, FUJITSU cpu) i think!
However, mileage can be changed on the later (LCD, Micronas cpu) by eeprom'ing.
Correct me if wrong -
------------------------------------------

Dealer was well happy and didn't mind my fee :)
PS. Hay Cheers Nazz - gotta go back n do that Ford Transit steering lock :(
