Switched on my TM 5402 super yesterday and saw a picture briefly for about 3 seconds then cut to 'no signal' black screen. All channels dead. Moved to another satellite, same again, brief picture then black. Back to Astra, brief picture then black. I presume this is telling me that the sat dish still moves and the cables must be fine, so why the no picture? Box dead? Help please!!

firstly check the f-con connection at the back. now send the motor to zero via the menu,s and try again.. sounds like the dish has moved slightly and its showing the picture as it goes past the correct position or the motor has thrown a pissy fit and has lost the table which tells it how many steps to move from slot to slot. when going to astra2@28.2east wait after the picture goes black and check outside to see if the dish looks like its pointing to the correct position by checking your or other sly dishes in the area... also when you move from 19.2east to 28.2east after it goes black try moving the dish west in small steps while on a fta channel to see if it comes back. regards mdt

Gosh, not that techie.. sadly. I did open up the menu though that had the motorised settings in and did the 'east/west shunt thing (or at least I think I did) and the signal strength came back. BUT.. when I shut the menu down it died again.. How to save the new setting? I only really watch Astra 19 so not that bothered if the motor isn't going to move me to other sats. Any idea how to store the moved dish?

hI merry christmas to you... when you get a signal on 19.2 you need to take the option to store the satellite position in motor menu. You can only do this if using the 1.2 option. If using USALS you cannot store the position .. you need to realign the dish using your hands or adjust the sat position in menu or your latitude position. Your best bet is to use the 1.2 protocol and store the signal. Hope this helps you.

Thanks Nutsandbolts! That is helpful indeed. I am using USALS (well, I say using, that's the one highlighted! I have no idea what USALS is...). I will try to change it to the other one you suggest. I managed last night by nudging the east bar to move the dish enough to get a reliable signal. Waited for a while and then exited and it seemed to hold. Haven't tried it today yet. Will certainly try your idea though. Have a good new year!

Hi Barking - Thank you and happy New Year to you and all your family and friends. Regarding motors here is some info for you and others.
USALS - This is the automatic satellite search method. It uses the SAT POSITION and location setting( latitude and longitude figures) in motor menu to move the dish to a particular satellite.
1.2 - This option is the manual search and store method. Basically you move the dish yourself using the remote and when you find a signal for the satellite you store it. because its a manual search it does not require the sat position and location figures. This option is very time consuming you can run into trouble if you dont start from the correct position on motor dial. I would personally recommend using USALS which i have for all the motors i have installed over the years. Hope this makes sense.
regards
