Hi guys,
firstly I will describe the problem. During the weekend I went to a car which stopped cranking. Based on the fault codes they (correctly as I found out later) ordered a new EWS ECU.

The original EWS3.2 (HW01 SW01) with MCU mask 2D47J stopped reading key data, ring antenna was fine.
They ordered a new EWS4 unit with mask 2L86D, which came pre-coded from dealer and was finally coded in the car.

What happened was that the original EWS3 was set in EWS2 mode with a solid ISN (for DDE2.2) and the new EWS4 which came from the dealer was improperly coded (I can not tell where it happened since I came after this process) for EWS3 mode with rolling ISN. I tried to fix it using NCS Expert, but no luck - read out fine, but as I was unable to write an updated and corrected FSW_PSW.MAN back to the EWS.

I guess I can also read the 2L86D MCU from the EWS4 but is it possible to set it to "EWS2 mode" on the table? In EWS editor I can see many possibilities of changing the data, but EWS4 is not supported (do not know if for reading/writing, or for editing). Question is: It definitely is possible to read EWS4 out, delete the rolling sync code, write the solid ISN in DEC (have it from the old EWS dump, or I can also verify by getting it from DDE with INPA), set it to EWS2 mode, reset rolling codes of keys. Will it work this way, or are there additional adjustments needed?

Why not just clone the old EWS and reset the rolling code?

"but as I was unable to write an updated and corrected FSW_PSW.MAN back to the EWS."

Did you load proper profile to write those manipulated files? The usual expertmodus won't work.
