i would not bother as no new films will be available in this format. i think they are going cheap as they are just getting rid of them as blu ray won over hd dvd

get one mate seriously get 1,i cant belive bluray won hd dvd picture is soo much better its unreal

ive picked 1 up for 20 quid, and a load of films for less than a fiver each, and ive a few films on both format(bd and hd dvd) and hd dvd doesnt have the grain problem that seems to bug so many bd releases

i know theres a few folk who think im a 360 fanboy but i have both the consoles but never bought a hd dvd drive as i thought it was too expensive

but to get 1 so cheap and see the quality it really is amazing to think were stuck with bluray

hell i paid 25 quid for silent hill on bd

it cost me 25 quid to get the hd dvd drive and silent hill on hd dvd,and you get the remote too(you know the one that costs between 15-20 quid if bought seperatly)

maybe there wont be many new films coming out for it-but since hd dvds are less than there dvd counterparts-in many cases you get the normal dvd version included

i really think ms ballsed up not intergrating the hd dvd from the start, what a differant picture it would be now

to any1 trying to pick holes in my opinion, both consoles are connected via hdmi, with the ps3 having a 1.3a spec hdmi cable,on a 1080p tv

i always said hd-dvd was the better of the two, and i stick by it.

wont bother buying one though as im a tight ass when it comes to films so i,ll stick with the .wmv format i can chuck in the 360, looks spot on to me lol.

I beg to differ, I'm a member of LoveFilm, I was updating my list last week, looking through some new realses and there we're still loads of films that have yet to be released exclusive to HD-DVD.

Ive got the HD-Drive for my 360 and a Blu-ray player, HD-DVD picure quality is so much better !!!!

i also picked up 1 of these with 25 movies and is a Region free player for all discs must say the pic and sound is top, you can pick up some great movies from 3.50 so wont kill the bank and you wont be ripped off by the cost of blu-ray for a bit

Soz to resurrect an old thread but... What's wrong with buying betamax tapes?! I collect old pre cert videos, here are some of my bestest, most are betamax:

Pretty much as soon as a format expires I go mad over it - pre cert videos; laserdiscs; HDDVDs. Please have a looksie in your loft, nothing in good enough condition turned down if I don't already have it!

and here is me thinking I was a 'oldie' by watching movies on my original 19 yr old pioneer laserdisc players. Personaly.... the picture and sound quality is still the best i have ever seen. And the original karaoke laserdiscs...well I still use them in my shows and they are far superiour recordings and quality than the CDG garbish now available.

I'll be sending my kids up the chimney next !!!!

I *love* laserdiscs! I didn't buy my first player until a month after DVD was launched in the US. I'm a huuuge horror fan and when I think about the hundreds I spent on lavish LD platters - ?50 for Can Holo, ?70 for Can Ferox - which can now be pick up for peanuts on DVD I do wince a bit I don't mind admitting. But they still look lush both AVwise and presentation-wise, in the same way that LP sleeves look better than CD sleeves.

Nice one Stan! btw... I am on the look out for a one machine plays all.... laser, dvd and cdg discs but with a keychanger and track/chapter selector on front. If you ever come across one I have cash waiting. MUST have keychanger capability for these formats.

Buy an hd player, you can get the Toshiba players very cheap, the films are now very cheap, there is also a big catalogue of hd films, even though there are not any more being released.I have a Sony PS3 and a Toshiba HD player, which i paid ?70 for,blu rays for the PS3 are around ?15,which is very good,HD films can be picked up for as little ?3 if you look on line, very good value.

get out the dark ages guys.... :)

i've done a bench test on my own setup with Batman Begins on both Bluray (PS3) and HD-DVD (Samsung DVD HD850) simultaneously on split screen using 2 identical HDMI cables (The Chord Company HDMI 1.3a Silver Plus) and the Bluray stole the show...
looks so much crispier than the HD-DVD and the blacks where that bit darker...

if HD-DVD was the better format don't you think they would have chosen it over Bluray....

Did the same test with PS3 and Tosh HD DVD player and got the opposite results. The HD DVD was much better. So i suppose it depends on what machine and TV your using. Also different people have different preferences.

It's the old story of Betamax versus VHS.The best system was not the one which cornered the market and finally won.

In my continuing quest to fill the house with expired movie formats I now have 105 of the 230 UK HDDVDs released and five of the 500-odd US ones. Betamax collecting is on hold at the mo but pretty much every day new LDs are arriving inc. last week, half a dozen mint condition pre certs still in their cellophane.

If anybody here has HDDVDs, LDs, DVHS or betamax tapes for sale, please get in touch :)

Incase anybody is in the market for US HDDVDs, inetvideo.com have stock of twenty-odd titles @$3.99 or $4.99 and at the mo international delivery is half price when you spend $50+. I've just ordered 27 :) They're customs friendly too.
