EPG not updating

ive had my fs5 for around 11 months and my line has been a bit intermittent recently, but generally comes back on after a few hours.
this morning when trying too update the EPG it shows a date at the bottom of 25/1/1903 and the epg update fails when using the red button.
i am not fully clued up on messing with files etc etc but i have done a firmware update 8 months or so back so i can follow idiot guides.
my line is currently down but the fs5 is i believe receiving the hard wired internet.
any advice please.

ive unplugged and reset the router and all is now fine.
it was odd though as the orange light behind the internet lead connector was flashing on the f5s box so it would appear it was receiving data.
