Hi Everyone,

I?ve got a Packard Bell Agro C2 Laptop and wanted to upgrade the RAM, as it is quite slow. It has 446MB or RAM just now.

Dose anyone know any good places to buy and what do you think I should upgrade to?

Thanks for any help (I?m just learning my way around a computer)

Cheers.

First of all, I would visit this site.

Memory upgrades from Crucial.com - About Crucial:Media Toolbox
(http://www.crucial.com/uk/systemscanner/index.aspx)

It will scan your laptop, tell you what type of memory you have and at what speed. It will also tell you your maximum MB/GB allowance.

Other places to buy...

i had my lappy scanned on the crucial website,,,told me i could have 4gb max,at the moment its 512mb so i purchased 2x2gb
put it in and fired up the lappy which took an eternity, didnt notice any difference at all,had a look to see if it recognised the upgrade and its showing i have 3gb not 4gb,,when i boot it up it goes directly to a settings page with info on bios etc i never changed anything just pressed save and continue,,i also have an error message showing a usb port is overheating, even though i dont have anything plugged in, and where my play button and shutdown buttons are the lappy is getting very hot,,i have now taken the 4gb out and put the 512 back in,,now its taken ages to boot up and im not sure what to do next
can anybody explain to me in laymans terms whats going on please ?

What OS are you using. Some versions of windows needs a patch to allow it to see 4GB or more memory.

hello canker
im running windows xp media centre edition 32bit,,

XP 32bit is limited to 3GB RAM - it won't see more than than 3.5GB

64bit and you'll have no probs

so i should send back one of the 2gb modules and replace it with a 1gb module ?
having a 1gb and a 2gb module side by side in the lappy, will that be ok ?

yep no probs whatsoever over the years ive had lots of different sticks of ram, 512mb and 1gb, 8mb and 16mb etc.. all perform happily.. ive even had different ram speeds 667 and 800mhz.. only thing is the 800mhz stick dropped to run at 667
