Hi there, im new on here so please bear with me if possible.
I bought my openbox off fleabay at christmas and everything works fine as it should which is great.
The problem im having is when the box is running it seems to effect the internet connection to the rest of the house ;(
My supplier is Ta*k Ta*k and the box is hardwired using ethernet cable. The rest (laptop, iphone, ipad etc) are using wifi. I get over 16mb sec as the exchange is very close to me so i have a great connection normally.
Is there any reports of the openbox effecting other in this way? Its almost like its drawing all my connection speed due to the hardwiring and not leaving anything for wifi??

I had something similar when using homeplugs, compatibility issue I thought. My wifi was affected but I just moved the homeplug and used a different lan port and it all worked fine. I don't think an Openbox would draw all your signal as it doesn't need that much at all to run on. Strange!

Thanks for the reply Gary.
I thought it wouldn't use much of the connection either so yep v strange. I've tried a netgear router too as well as my ta*k talk one but I still get the same ;(
I read on another forum something to do with an 'n line' compared to a 'c line' causing problems with dropped Internet connection but I don't know anything about those?
I'll keep waiting ;)

Hi im new here so sorry for resurrecting an old thread but it is my problem as well so i didn't feel the need to start a new thread. So basically i have an internet problem for a while now. The internet intermittently drops for a few minutes, wireless and LAN. I tried to diagnose the problem. I had the routers replaced by internet provider twice. The last time it was replaced the engineer spotted my openbox and said "hey you know they interfere with your internet right?" . Anyway again today they replaced my router and still i have the same random drop for a few minutes every half hour or so for a few minutes. So to test i unplugged the cable from the openbox. So for the past 2 hours it hasn't disconnected once. Any body have any ideas? Thanks for any advice or help.

Try disabling your firewall. Forget wireless use lan.

Thanks for the reply, i don't use the box wireless i have a LAN cable direct. When i say the internet drops out i mean that the entire internet in the house drops out not the box. It seems to be affecting the router some how. Is this even possible? Can providers detect a box connected and mess the internet?

No they can't. Change your isp if you can.

atkalel as you have resurrected this thread I take it your on talktalk and have the Huawei router? If you have that's the same setup I've got, which at present gives me no problems (No outage/speed slowdowns on 4mb broadband). The only advice I can give is to perhaps test your openbox in a friend's/families' house (if they have a sat dish and broadband) and see if it affects their broadband, it could be a dodgy openbox.

Hey man, no i have different isp but the same issues. I did remove the box for 24hrs to test the internet without the box connected and i still have issues. I think that maybe having the box effect internet is an urban legend created by providers to scare people off. Anyway ive proved at least for me it is not the box causing issues.

Hi guys still having trouble with my box if anyone can advise. So i was on to my providers for nearly two weeks and finally yesterday they resolved my internet trouble. They swapped me over to ipv4 and it has fixed the problem . The internet no longer drops. The problem i have now is that my openbox will work. It says scrambled on every channel. I checked my line with the guy i get it from and he says it is fine. When i go into the settings it says my cam is " offline ". I have the cable directly plugged in through lan. Is it possible for isp to block my box only? The lan works everywhere else in the house. It has me fairly confused atm, thanks.

It says scrambled on every channel.
I presume you mean every $$$ channel..........and if so I would contact your other provider again.
You could try turning DCHP off then on again.
Other than that, I don't think I can help you any more...
