Hello guys
I need your help on this one .
Does anyone knows what I can do to correct the firmware on a 2002 toyota Rav4 ECM. I've been doing some research online and appears to be that the 2001 -2003 RAV4 have a problem with the ECM or ECU and can be fixed with some kind of update to the computer.
Does anyone knows what I can use to repair mine.
Please let me know and thank you very much in advanced.

I had the same problem on my 2002 Rav4, Toyota released a new ecm calibration couple of years ago, but it is a hardware problem eprom inside does not keep the calibration flash.. Anyways Toyota extended the ECM warranty on the 2002-?? Rav4 to 10 years 150k miles.

here is the memo from toyota
To: All Toyota Dealer Principals,
Service Managers, Parts Managers
Subject: Customer Support Program (CSP) ? Specific Malfunction Indicator Light ?ON? and/or Harsh Shift of
Automatic Transaxle on Certain 2001 through 2003 Model Year RAV4 vehicles
In our continuing efforts to assure the best in customer satisfaction, Toyota will initiate a Customer
Support Program (CSP) to enhance portions of the warranty coverage on certain 2001 through 2003
model year RAV4 vehicles equipped with an automatic transaxle. Please see the ?CSP Coverage
Details? section for applicability and limitations.
Background
? Toyota has received reports that certain 2001 through 2003 model year RAV4 vehicles equipped with an
automatic transaxle may exhibit a harsh shift condition and/or a Malfunction Indicator Light (check engine
light) ?ON? condition that is specifically related to diagnostic codes P0750, P0753, P0755, P0758, and/or
P1760.
The following vital information is provided to inform you and your staff of the program notification schedule and
your degree of involvement.
1. Owner Notification Mailing Date
The owner notification will commence in mid-July 2010, approximately one week after the dealer
notification. We have attached a copy of the owner notification letter for your reference.
2. CSP Coverage Details
Toyota dealers are requested to verify the condition. If the condition is verified, the dealer will need
to repair the vehicle by replacing the Engine Control Module (ECM) or the ECM and the automatic
transaxle under the terms of this CSP. In the majority of cases, the repair will only require
replacement of the ECM. (Please refer to T-SB-0156-10 for additional information.)
This Warranty Enhancement is offered for a period of 10 years or 150,000 miles from the vehicle?s
in-service date, which ever occurs first, for a check engine light ?ON?* condition and/or a harsh shift of
the automatic transaxle.
*Condition must be related to at least one of the following diagnostic codes:
? P0750 ? P0753 ? P0755 ? P0758 ? P1760
