sorted. Airbag and wheel, off, drop steering rack, then dislocate hands to remove bolt and press pin in. Not for the faint hearted. bigger job than i thought. new motor didnt work, so now starts the wait for the dealer :(

Why Gwee? Could still be faulty lock? Do you mean it's not reparable with new motor?

Could be either of two things:
1)ESL NEC is in state 0xAA(Fatal error) - most common.
2)EIS is faulty - least common.
You should also check the key, newer ones are prone to failure if dropped frequently.

if it stay in unlock position and when remowe key heard relay click it can be repaired.very easy to remove,at brake pedal side on elv found by hand 13 screw and remove it.push it inside and remove elv.be care for position inside elv

hi guys sorry to drag an old thread back up
just been given half a steering rack here with a ESL still in and the threadded bolt does not push back inside
i believe this is cos the ESL is in the lock position
am i right in believing that if i drill a hole in the spot like the above pic shows i can manually wind it back to the unlock position ??
and then once off wind it back to the lock position as to not destroy the NEC mcu indie
thanks

yes its in lock position, and yes you can drill a hole and push the gear so that the bolt becomes relased. BUT be very very carefull when drilling, cause the gear is tight to the esl housing and you can easy drill a hole in the gear to. So keep calm and make it slow and precise.
You wont destroy the nec inside, just plug the esl cable out and you are good to go
Good Luck

i have simon touch and AVDI
how can i transfer the data from the old naff ESL to the new working used one ?
both are activated so i will need to renew the working one
simon touch said the original ESL is not repairable
the used other one i have says can be repaired

When simon says the original EIS can not be repaired, it means it has 0xAA fatal error. Changing the motor alone won't solve the problem.
You need to fix the NEC it with simon tool (or others), you will need a working v51/v57 key to get the required info(Password) to program the NEC after you fix it.
If the key is BGA (2010 style) you can't do the job with simon tool.

The situation if non repaireable isnt that fatal error and shouldnt simon be able to repair it ?
You cant transfer data.. only way is to virgin the working one and then get esl file from simon for 50usd, for that you need eis dump and key password

i read the simon PDF and it said to read the EZS
then read key nec to inject password into ezs dump _ SKC
it says to program this SKC file to the ESL in his pdf and job done !
i only have ESL LITE tho
so i dont have the software to do this virginise, where to get the virgin W204 ESL dump from too like the pdf says !
ps. i took the nec out of the ESL module as its unrepairable and put it in the adapter i use to read teh key nec chips
but i dont have the ESL tool software to erase it and renew it.
hopefully its not too much to update this ESL software with simon
thanks

You have to get it to esl doctor full or you cannot solve this. And you got to have also something as you said to read the key password and ezs eeprom then you can send it to simon and pay 50usd and then you will get the esl file that you need. Of course if you manage to get rid of the fatal error

thanks Mario for your input here
ive been speaking to simon and to get my ESL LITE up to full doctor its 700e
im going to take that for now
not a bad price ill make it back in no time if i advertise the service around my way and local garages :)
anyways with the NEC off the ESL i can write it back to stock and get it back to the correct status
the motor in the ESL is ok tho so im not sure whats going on here as i tested it in a working one with SIMON
i reset my spare ESL to the open position and set the status holding the switches in the NEC and rebuilt it
then in the software i copied the S/H into the box and told it to lock
fair enough it locked so i think the motor is ok
but when i told it to unlock it error'ed
not sure if this is cos im on LITE and it only allows to do one way test.
but shall see in the next few days if its all singing and dancing when new nec adapter comes and new software links
thanks

No still bad motor. Change it and reasemble again it will work. Thats not a small price 700e for update.. since 800e i think is esl doctor when you buy it as new..
