As the title says. M8 of mine has one of these over priced German pieces of tat. Was driving home the other day and it just stopped. Now cranks over and wont start. Not a fault code in sight. No fuses gone. Plugs wet and it sparks. Not saying it sparks at the right time though. Not any blow back into the inlet manifold but I would have thought the timing is out. I've heard the chains are crap and stretchy on these and the vanos springs are also prone on these as well. Is there anything obvious for me to be checking apart from compression - sounds like it has compression but is that my next port of call when I get a minute.

Have you checked live data for cranking speed as crank sensors are prone to failure and a pleasure to change just above the starter and yes chains are also crap and can let the cams jump a few teeth easy to check with rocker cover off.

Yes mate. Had the oscilloscope on it as well to make sure the CKP and both CAM signals were clean and present. I've got a mate here in town that specializes in BMWs so I think I'll inflict it on him. I do lectrix and only mess with the oily side of things when I am motivated. And I find my motivation is always lacking when German junk comes through the door.
