Hi guys!!

I've had an openbox v8s and also the skybox F3 but find the openbox to be the better box, I've also had the dm800hdse for a good few years now but the tuner keeps going every so often which is annoying so what could I possibly go for next which is good all rounder as the dm800 but not as expensive?

The openbox are cheap but you get what you pay for on that front!! :)

I use a Zgemma 2s which is a great step up from an openbox. It's at the cheap end of the Linux e2 market but does the job of a recordable Sat receiver very well, however, it is rubbish with things like Kodi or ts media.

Another box I've heard good things about is a Wetek play, bit more expensive but this is an android box so will handle Kodi and other apps better.

Thanks for that martin!

I have a fire stick which I have kodi on so won't need that anyway? I have heard a few good things about those zgemma boxes myself.

Just looking now to pull away from the dm800 as im sick of the tuners goin faulty every so often and spending ?35 on a new tuner.

I have loads of recorded content from the dm so I wonder if I could just put the hard drive straight into the zgemma and it will read the files?

Well, for another ?35 you can buy a Zgemma 2s off the ba, kinda saves you money in the long run.

The Zgemma will read the movies off the hard drive with no problems, However, for the Zgemma to use the record/timeshift/epg functions the hard drive need to initialised (formatted) and then converted to ext4 filesystem by the box, as you've got a DM800 linux box already there's a good chance you've already done this to the hard drive.

You got me thinking now! Lol

Just thought of getting another tuner but prob In another 5 months it will prob start goin faulty again?

I see zgemma do a combo box which has a dual tuner as we have cable in our area and sly but not sure if it can operate both at once? I would of thought using one then some how telling the box your moving to the other if that makes sense

Cheers guys. So I take it the h1 is the better box to go for as its a combo?

Also how do we go about doin the channel edits from time to time? I sometimes like to arrange the way I like them arranged. Lol

You can get the H1 or H2 nothing really different between them tbh you can do your own channel lists or just use auto bouquets for you region .

The combo box will give you the best of both world including all the HD channels available on cable but not sat.

Autobouquetsmaker will scan both cable and sat then place the channels in there relevant bouquets, you can manually edit the bouquets with your remote or use the bouquet editor on the openwebiff app (built in) via your PC

i like the idea of multi tuner boxes like the xtrend 8000 that can have 3 tuners [ your choice of tuners ] so one can record to internal hdd ,+ other are quad tuners .
linux open sourced boxes are a good choice.

The dm800se boxes are good but they have lots of problems and cost you money, I quite like these zgemma h1 boxes as they are very similar to the dm's in setup and also have combo tuners which is cool!!!

Think its end of days for the dreamboxes now!! :P

Zgemma or Sunray both are good boxes....but the Zgemma offers better value plus I think the build quality is better as well
just a shame you cant run a Blackhole image on the box :(

What would be the best image to put on the zgemma?

I hear the sly one is ok to use??

What would be the best image to put on the zgemma?

The 2 most popular images at the moment are OpenVix and OpenAtv. Both do the job, however, the OpenVix image uses patched drivers to work on the Zgemma, this means it's not fully supported by the openvix team to a point where if you mention the zgemma on their forum you will get abuse and rude comments, also with the Openvix image updates have to be done by re-flashing the Zgemma as over the Air updates don't work. OpenAtv image is the opposite, full supported by the openatv team and updates can be carried out over the air, so no need to flash the box every 7-10 days. I've used both and from a day to day usage there's not much difference, but now use OpenAtv as I think the long term support will be better and that the people who patch the openvix image could stop there support anytime.

I hear the sly one is ok to use??

That's a skin, designed to make the Zgemma look like a $ky box, works on OpenAtv and Openvix images.

Where do you get that skin from mate?

martin035
17th October, 2015, 10:20 AM
bigbhoy77, it's a zgemma skin available from the plugin section of the menu or via custom download, It however, will not work on an Openbox

Which is the most up to date openATV firmware to use martin? theres quite a few on there site but im thinking the highest numbered is the most recent to use??

Also, can we use the dcc (one used on dm800se) software to correspond with the zgemma box or does it have to be a certain version to use with the zgemma H1 ?

cactikid
18th October, 2015, 05:47 PM
as they are e2 boxes dcc or filezilla client should work for both, always best to read up on current images if people are having issues and reporting bugs.thinking highest number comes with a date added?

toe471
19th October, 2015, 06:34 PM
Gonna give that filezilla a bash this time as I used dcc for the dm800 so may as well try the other instead!

Actually forgot when I seen the openatv firmwares that its in a date ordered fashion, oops!!...... managed to get the correct file now will be putting that on but how about the channelling system and how that works? I understand that there's an autobouquets area in the menu but how do we get the channels in order or how we want them? bit like when AJ does his lists on here?

Thanks for the advice by the ways guys!!! :)

Remember to connect with filezilla you need the IP address of your Zgemma (menu-information-network) and username is root leave the password and port blank and press quick connect, left side is your PC right side your Zgemma, drag and drop.

You use autobouquetsmaker which is a plugin app, it puts the channels in $ky like order, but can be manually changed to suit the user, it auto updates the frequency of channels so no channel list once setup, some channels have to be added manually ie setanta hd, AMCfrombtHD and eurosportHD explained in the guide.

Menu-plugins Green button to add find Systemplugin- 'Autobouquetsmaker' and install

Then follow this guide to configure ABM http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/showthread.php/484814-Help-me-I-m-new?p=2593802&viewfull=1#post2593802 start@AutoBuoquetsMaker ie auto channel finder and favs maker

Hi martin!

Got my zgemma H1 box today, reflashed it with the most recent openatv firmware and followed your instructions, installed the autobouquets maker, followed the instructions to allow us to scan, did the tuner configuration to simple, now scanned but when I go back into the ABM to start a scan it doesn't pick nothing up but tells me there is a timeout for tuner lock??

Any ideas?

cactikid

does it say sat astra 28.2 if on sat feed? done when setting up box for first time,+ abm is also set to sd for sat and your location most important.

Yeh. Set the above to wat was mentioned on the list. Not to sure where the settling is under abm but im sure it's to sd ?

Any ideas?

1. First ensure satellite and cable feeds connected to box.
2. Setup Tuner A - Config mode scroll to 'Advanced' , Satellite scroll to '28'2e Astra' ,LNB scroll to 'LNB 1' leave all other options default, Press Ok
3. Setup Tuner B - setup for cable ie network ID, qam and symbol rate.
4. ABM set up for satellite ie Granada custom
5. ABM set up for cable ie network id
6. Do your scan

Just one thing from your above post martin?

I have only got sly plugged in as I don't really intend to use cable and also there is not a coaxel lead coming from my virmin router?

I can go on without this?

martin035

Yes, in the tuner config menu, disable tuner B, then follow the guide, don't set anything up for cable.

Ok. Yeh i did that, it was set to not connected in the cable config section? Still nothing on the scan.

Ok. Yeh i did that, it was set to not connected in the cable config section? Still nothing on the scan.

Best think you start the my guide from the beginning, change the following;
1. flash the zgemma with a H1 image not a s2 image get the image here, get the one dated 20151001 http://images2.mynonpublic.com/openatv/current/index.php?open=zgemmash1
2. Follow the guide, but on the Post Flash Initial Setup–( Use remote scroll left right up and down arrows as required) change 10. Setup Tuner B - Config Mode 'not configured' Press Ok

If this doesn't work you need to find a Zgemma Hi backup image which is already set up to ensure the box is work ok

Right!!

Put a new flash on what you said martin and followed your instructions and its worked!!!

I have to be honest here..........I did the procedure last night and made the mistake of entering 16mb instead of the 256mb (thought it was GB as my sd card is only 16gb) it wanted in the swap manager at the start??

My misses did it tonight from fresh and she did it fine!!!, I will get my coat!!!!! :)

Will process a bit further and see how WE get on lol

By the way? Wat does the autobouquet feature actually do?

Can I also download a program that that helps move the channels around as we like them or is this only done through the zgemma menu?

martin035

By the way? Wat does the autobouquet feature actually do?

It does what AJ & Cwaite do on the openbox series, ie finds all the channel frequencies and puts them in to the appropriate 'Fav' folder/bouquet ie puts $ky 1 in to 'entertainment' or BT Sports 1 HD into 'Sports' then auto updates the frequency for you as the channel changes frequency.

Can I also download a program that that helps move the channels around as we like them or is this only done through the zgemma menu?

Already on the enigma2 image, you can do it one of two ways;
1. Use your PC and open your browser and type the web address of zgemma ie 192.168.1.9 this will open the openwebif interface from there click 'bouquets editor' and have fun
or
2. Use the Zgemma, on your remote press 'fav' then enter the folder/bouquet with the channels you want to move and press 'menu' and select 'enable move mode, then press 'ok' on the channel to move and move with the up/down arrows and press 'ok' when in place you want it.

However, you will need to turn autobouquetmaker auto scan off as ABM will put the channels back to the original positions every time it does it's daily scan.

Schedule scan to ‘No’

Maybe best leaving it the way it is perhaps if it changes when it updates as you will be messing with it all the time lol

How about the cross epg? Does it have the 7 day listing same as the dm800s?

I have my 'auto scan' set to No, I like the channels in my order, IE BT sports HD channels first in sports, AMC & 5USA next to Atlantic in entertainment. I only run ABM if there's a major channel changes, most of the time I do a manual scan on a select transponder for single channel change.

How about the cross epg? Does it have the 7 day listing same as the dm800s?

Yes, and as it updates daily you always have 7 days worth, great for recording.

Even just navigating up and down the menu is slow? That epg button has a mind of its own as well lol

If you can do without picon's on the epg then turn them off, it will speed up the epg or just use the fav button to change channels.

The Mk SNP picon are very high Res, but do look smart, what you could do is a compromise, and install some basic picons. You can get them from the same place as you got the Mk picon, Ocram's dirtysnp are ok, just 7z the tar file then unrar the folder, then replace the picon folder on the zgemma and reboot.

All Openatv zgemma's need that plugin lol
