need a bit of details

router model
encryption if your using if its wep youll need to change that to wpa2 or wpa wep can be hacked easily.
youll need your firewall and filters on.
you should have 2 firewalls
hardware Router
software= some people dont have but can be a life saver against viruses and other nasties on the net.

Intrusion Detection software common firewalls on operating systems dont cut nowadays like windows firewall/defender are built around the operating system Symantec Endpoint 11 or Kaspersky internet security 2009 to montior traffic with the firewalls and have antispyware and virus monitor that come with it. these are just for security and have experience in it.
