Had a 2010 insignia today with mileage not displaying. The car has never been touched but it happened following a battery change. Does anyone know a cure? Arthur.

Try to disconnect the battery again.

Wait 5 mins and connect back...

Everything should be ok...

This happens sometimes after mileage calibration by OBD2...

Problem is in dashboard eeprom... disconnecting won't help. I have repaired these in the past.

upload the dump on here

You all begin to come accross insignia ,astra j mokka etc dashes displaying no mileage after battery disconnect. The 24c16 eeprom on the rear of the odometer has to be altered as above to get the mileage reading to display again

This 2010 insignia if it has 35080 chip it should not get corrupted because protected chip, just saw it has 24c chip.

Surely all the dealer tools that only the very wealthy people can afford are able do this job! Arthur.

95080 in dash. Seems that VIN get corrupted on dashboard.
Just write VIN with op-com/avdi/mdi on dashboard.

nothing so far i have seen, to do with the dump being corrupted

Vauxhall/Opel dealers current repair for this problem is to fit a new cluster. Arthur.

Aye because that's the simplest option , rather than investigate

For those who haven't seen it. Here is the problem. Arthur.

Have heard you can sort this with a chinese gizmo costing under a tenner on ebay. That should make the wealthy members with all their expensive dealer tools, who charge fortunes for pushing a few buttons very happy. Arthur.

DUMB SUGGESTIONS MOMENT:-

remove clocks, drive a bit, refit, close eyes. Nothing to loose if all else fails.

captain crackers

Have you ever taken the clocks out of an Insignia? I wouldn't be doing it again without having the solution. Arthur.

Also other problems:
Not displaying engine speed - ECM sends the RPM over CAN.

Not displaying vehicle speed - ABS sends the wheel speed over CAN.

:alberteinstein::alberteinstein:As Captain Crackers pointed out
A cheap tool is available to do this, but you have to remove the cluster

That means screwdrivers and stuff.....................you can't remove the cluster with a push button tool on this car!

( for those who can't figure it out...............the cheap tool is an eeprom reader!).

ON TOPIC:-

how can this problem be prevented.??

Captain, not had clocks out of one, can you drop steering colon for access, guess 4 M8 bolts?

captain crackers
14th November, 2015, 12:41 AM
Quite a lot of panels and trims to remove before you arrive at the 2 x m7 or m8 bolts (can't remember which) holding the clocks. Arthur.

14th November, 2015, 12:52 AM
By the way TULGEY, you don't need to use a basic eeprom programmer (less than a tenner on Ebay). You could always use a very expensive Enigma or DP3/4 (if you knew which buttons to press). I am reasonably sure the result would be the same but of course there is always the obvious satisfaction of owning very expensive tools when doing this sort of job. Arthur.

ON & OFF TOPIC:-

DO NOT let air freshners contact dashboard it melts them, looks like fire damage.

Hi
I have same problem after disconecting battery milage ----
Anybody can help if I post cluster eeprom here?

Nicolas9

i found this on youtube

Battery went flat on my car replaced battery mileage was gone took years of research but eventually fixed it loads of misleading fixes online in forums etc its the eeprom its the cluster its the ecu ignore those its more than likely a simply fix like this i took it to vauxhall and asked them to reprogram the body control module (BCM) THEY SAID IT WONT BE THE BCM ITS THE CLUSTER $1000 fix with everything ha ha ha i said well try the bcm well to there surprise it worked and was only £75 to have the bcm reset you will need any keys you have for the car has they need to be reprogrammed also you need your car pass which has the pin on it vauxhall charge an extra £25 for the car pass

dont know if its true, but it's worth the try as I didnt see any useful solution here... I have an 2016 Opel Karl with same problem, and want to solve it myself, but dont know how :(

opel insignia has the Km in BCM 24C16 not in dashboard if you are looking for display ML/KM eeprom.....

Nobody is disputing that the Miles/Km are changed in the BCM,

but this post is fixing the problem of the cluster display showing the 6 dashes ------

the fix for this is to edit the data within the 24c16 inside the cluster

you may ask how I know this to be true, well I have repaired two this way, one only being done 2 day ago.

the answer to the fix is in post #36, good luck.

It tells you the hex position,

it then tells you what to write in that position.

You must write every position.

I think there is a bug in solution from post #36. After use it there was some cluster configuration change eg LHD to RHD change.
